| Some laptops can actually be damaged if you run it without the battery...
My friend's laptop had its power supply burned out because there was no load on the battery like there usually was... He was told that if he wanted to run without a battery, that he needed a "Weight Saver" device, which had circuitry inside to prevent any damage, but weighed next to nothing.
