Articles are definitely good idea (maybe Bylaws too). I doubt that the document will need to actually be filed with the SOS since the project will not take in much income, and I doubt too many people who donate monies will donate a large enough sum or want to deduct it on their taxes. The document, in my opinion, would still a be a good way to COT(cover or tails).
Now with that being said, if the team decides we should file and create a NPO or LLC, I would suggest obtaining legal counsel. I can draft legal documents and guide people in the right direction legally, but I can not, by any stretch of the imagination, give legal advice. Do we have an attorney on the team that would be willing to donate some time to review the document. |
