 Eastlink Petition

I had no issues with Eastlink until the cap, and the horrid manner in which they decided to do their customer service and technical support. I find it insulting and enraging that they would rather lose a customer than resolve the issues. Regarding the cap, they didn't even try upselling my account to a business account (without a cap I hope).

I, like many others, are signing a petition to remove the 30gig limit.

Please see this link: www.fourside.com/petition

@eastlink.ca

final word: Eastlink is a foodstamp isp, with less then foodstamp Techsupport (do you fellaz have your GED's?), owned privately by a guy who doesn't give a shit about his customers. Their speeds are awesome, but whats the point if you can't use the connection beyond 30 gigz.., Atleast other ISP's would notify their customers, provide a method for us to log in and check out used b/w... but no.. who gives a shit about the customers... dont even get me started on eastlink's billing process... and no, I didn't sign any acceptable use policy neither pplz.. makes you wonder about possible legal repercussions due to false ad's, unlimited always on connection my a$$. No notification, no method to monitor... hrm.. I think I'll email some of them work for winning retard lawyers...

Peace.

Re: EVERYONE SIGN--->>>>"Eastlink Petition"

Nice petition, backed up by real and truthfull stats.
I Hope everyone gets on board of this and lets eastlink know how they feel. Eastlink sucks right now with the new rate limiting.

Easy to say "cancel", but basically we have 2 isp's in this area. Easlink 5mbit down, 1 mbit up(1mbit claimed but i've never seen it)rate limited to 30 gigs transfer / month
Then we have aliant, 1.6 mbit down, 40 k upload, unlimited.
Truth is, eastlink really stung thier customers on this. But, people will have to decide if the rate limits are too much for them. In my opinion, it's pretty easy to chew up 30 gigs in 1 month. After this, you'll be capped to near dial up speeds which really stinks! If this is important to you, yes, cancel and get aliant. Aliant is slower...but slow and steady wins the race!
As far as eastlink goes, ya, it's faster, but whats the point of going 500 mph if you can't even finish the quater mile???

This is exactly what i think, and i would switch to Aliant DSL right now if they had service in my area. Unfortunatly Eastlink has the highspeed monopoly here

Ok,capped again this month. This isp is really getting on my nerves. I understand that bandwidth costs money. I'm not just "freaking out" that this company is doing what it thinks is managable. I'm argueing the fact in which the policies are implemented. First of all...I have been capped , or rate limited several times and I have "never" recieved any kind of e-mail from them warning me or advising me that I have exceeded or am getting close to thier limit. I actually went and purchased an aliant line, and now have both in my home. I can easilly compare the 2.
Eastlink (I know you are reading this), WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE. It's insane the way you have this implemented. Rendering a great speedy line to just 12.8k/sec after limit reached??? C'mon...we can hardly download a large jpeg like this!!!! I would also like to comment in the way you respond to customers who complain about the cap. You are quick to remind us that we, the people who get capped are the top %1 of your bandwidth users and that bandwidth is expensive. Does it not make sense then, that %99 of your customers are costing you very little in bandwidth. According to your very own arguements, you are gaining nicely from customers who download very little.
Several months ago, local newspapers did a story on Aliant changing thier speeds and the like. I have called these papers and explained that I don't think Eastlink should be immune from such stories. I explained to the Business Editor of the Halifax Herald Newspaper, what has been happening to me as a eastlink customer, and how I feel i've been shafted. I was told this was unlimited, and very fast, and that the service was designed for downloading large files (which eastlink still advertises to this day). As an example, home video dvdr's are 4.3 gigs each. You can crap out your eastlink connection in 2-3 days sharing your home videos with family members. I expect The Halifax herald to be doing a article in the near future. A place for all Nova Scotia residents to read at how this companies advertising and new policies can be "misleading". The current policies of rate limiting absolutely stink and being cut to 12k/sec is very very extreme. By the way..where's my 1mbit upload bandwidth you advertise?...i've never seen it! I've uploaded to some very fast places, and have seen a max of 45k/sec in the 4 months of being connected. Less than 1/2 of what you claim.

Oh well...I could go on forever, but I truely fell like i'm flogging a dead horse. While files get larger, and easlink gets worse, try'n to squeeze the people for every penny they can, I guess i'm left with no choice but to cancel my eastlink line. It's nowhere near what it says it is.

Last but not least eastlink, remember this in your meetings:
When people recieve a good product/service for a value price , they tell thier friends.

When people don't recieve what they originally paid for, they tell even more. The petitions circulating right now are far more widespread then the numbers you likely dicuss.

What does it take for you to realize you've made a mistake,
anti eastlink websites?

Good by, good riddance to a isp that is content to compare itself to other Canadian isp's and drop it's service so it can be at par, rather than excel, and be able to brag that they are the best.

One note I wanted posted in this fourm also that may be of interest to anyone try'n to decide if they wanted to go with eastlink or aliant.
Since I've been connected with eastlink i've had my connection cut to 12.8k/sec every month except for the very first month I bought the line, pretty much rendering my line useless untill the beginning of the new month.

I don't have 1 single solitary public file sharing program installed on my computer. No Napster, Morpheus, Kazzaa, Win Mx, ...nothing. If you plan on using any of these programs when you get connected, I would seriously consider what will happen to your connection. The limits imposed can easilly be chewed up quickly. Last month, on the 14th of the month,I tried to download a single .mp3, it was scheduled for 53 min download. I canceled the transfer.

Alot of isp's focus on your upload bandwidth when considering rate limits and capping.Eastlink looks both ways.
They should change thier advertising to look something like this:

EASTLINK HIGH SPEED, PERFECT FOR DOWNLOADING LARGE FILES, EXTREMELY FAST AND RELIABLE (for the first 7 days of each month).
Also, eastlink is very quick to point the finger at illegal files when talking about bandwidth abusers and people who download alot. Keep in mind, there are plenty of perfectly legal files, beta programs, music, freeware, shareware, paid for programs, updates, home video and dvd movies etc...
Eastlink seems to want to beat up the whole neighborhood because a few crooks live in it.

well i just got off the phone with Eastlink discussing the bandwidth cap....

I was informed that the 30gig combined cap is in fact 30gig down & 30 gig up....

when your reach 30 gigs up or down then the cap is implemented....

say if you dl 29gigs then you can still upload up to 30 gigs as long as you don't go over the 30 gigs either way...

right now my dumeter is showing 25.32dl / 7.68 up... 33gig combined..im still going with full bandwidth.....no cap & no warning e-mail

at first when i called eastlink last month they told me that the cap was 30gig combined...

the person i was talking to today said the tech was mistaken and that it is 30gig down / 30gig up......

as soon as you go over 30 either way its capped...

just thought i would let you guyz know about the talk i had with them today...

BTW..I still think the cap stinks regardless..

Hey dude, im sure eastlink is upset that your pirating ass is gone from their service, however mpowered is no different, they where going to implement a 15 gig cap a while ago, instead they opted for a 1.5 mbit cap. The badwidth cap is coming soon. Most isps only offer around a 15 gig limit on download, 30 gig for up and 30 gig for down is more then resonble. Also not to mention any idiot with half a brain can remove the cap from their line. The motorola surfboards are not transparent and the cap is done on their end. You can uncap them using a simple downloadable program. Might i suggest using google and doing some research before you start complaining about eastlink cutting your bandwidth hogging ass, I for one cannot blame them, and im sure if you read the terms and agreement, you would see they are well within their rights to do this.

I agree with you fully, 30 GIG is a lot. I myself download a lot some times but not every single day... The only way that you can really get capped at 30 gig is go Download non stop Day and night. I have downloaded family video that has been converted to dvd, and downloaded Beta software, freeware, and even music, and to this day have never had a problem with the service. I have only lost connectivity 3 times since i had the service. 2 times were for Scheduled maintance which i have received an e-mail, and once an Amp went on the line, and needed repair. I have nothing but praise for the service, and when you think about it, it is the fastest provider in North America. most other companies you are lucky for you can get 2mbit down... so yes Eastlink is fast and it may be the choice for leechers, but even with all the DL'in i do i still have never had any kind of cap on my line, and i average 500-800KBytes (5mbit = something around 625KBytes) down from most sites (Also I am the only one on the NODE)... The people that are complaining about the CAP no matter what they say are the ones running FTP, IRC, KAZAA, WINMX, ETC Servers (Which i use occasionally). and the computers are on 24/7/365.... constantly DLin and ULin.. And you can not say that you are not.. And they have an extensive Collection Of SVCD's... I download my share of stuff on the net, but all i can say is you are lucky to still have an account.. As in the Eastlink contract, running a server of any kind is forbidden and is ground for account suspension or termination. So before you jump down their throat about their choices, read the full members agreement and other doccumation... Oh and before you flame me for someone who works for eastlink and that is why i am supporting them, i don't, i work for MSN Tech Support.. I am a firm believer that every computer owner should have a COMPUTER LICENSE, no different then a CAR, you are not legially allowed to drive a car without a LICENSE it should be the same with computers. If i woke up tomorrow and there was no internet, i would go do something else. it would come back on eventually.. And trust me working for tech support yah there is a lot of dumb people doing the support, and that is no different for any company... If you think the support sucks for any provider then go to google and find out how to fix it yourself or even eastlink.ca has walkthroughs for all their crap, and tech support does not always get any kind of notification if the lines are down and when it comes to cable there is only 4 things that a tech support agent can do with a can't connect.. (POWERCYCLE, PUSH CONNECTION, REBUILD CIRCUIT (Takes 15-30mins sometimes unless they are very familiar with doing it), OR ROLL A TRUCK). There is nothing else that can be done with cable unless the modem is fried... Tech support is only there for the 10% of the people who either have no clue and should not own a computer or for someone to call in and Bitch at (Hay ever hear of a POWERCYCLE?). Not for the actual tech support. 90% of call center training is customer service and how to operate their software to track the calls, not actual hardware training.

Their excuse was "we are doing this so that we can make sure everyone gets the same speed" ya well if everyone gets 12k the is for sure the same speed. 30 gigs is bullshit because in a house with 3 people who use the net a lot we get about a week of full speed. If they would have told me about it when i signed up instead of feeding me bullshit like unlimited high speed internet, well it certainly isn't unlimited. The main reason they are doing it if to be cheap bastards because they are greedy fukers and to make sure that p2p users are capped. If you have been reading up anything on the news it will probably be soon be less of a crime to walk into a cd store and steal 40 cds than download 1 song.
