Re: ZyXel 645 If you can get in, you can see noise margins. Go to Menu 24.8 ("Command Interpreter Mode"). Here's the commands to completely snapshot your connection:
w a l n (short for "wan adsl linedata near")
w a l f (short for "wan adsl linedata far")
w a c (short for "wan adsl chandata")
w a p (short for "wan adsl perfdata")
The password "mspzyx" may have been short-lived as is access via telnet.
Upgrading firmware has risk (there's no easily available serial port to fall back on, you better know your settings, Earthlink no longer supports the modem, etc.) There's also a few ways to do it - Menu 24.7.1 is a key.
