Ottawa, ON | PS Tutorial: Light Bursting Text This tutorial will show you how to make the following in Photoshop (I used PS 7, don't know if it will work in other editions). 
(For more examples, see my end result below)
Step 1:
Create a new document, make sure its set to RGB (colours) not Grayscale. Choose any size (but remember to leave lots of room).
Step 2: Set your background to white and foreground to black. Type whatever you want in black. Make it big (size 60 or 70). Now press ctrl+e to merge the layers.
Step 3:
Invert the colors (ctrl+i). Then go Filters>Blur>Gaussian Blur (click ok).
Step 4:
Change the Polar coordinates to "Polar to Rectangular" : Filter>Distort>Polar Coordinates. Then rotate the canvas 90°CW (Image>Rotate Canvas>90°CW)
Step 5:
Add Wind 3 times to the right: Filter>Stylize>Wind (After you've done it once you can press ctrl+F twice to repeat it two times). Then rotate the canvas 90°CCW (Image>Rotate Canvas>90°CCW).
Step 6:
Change the Polar coordinates back to "Rectangular to Polar" : Filter>Distort>Polar Coordinates.
Step 7:
Add color. Press ctrl+u to bring up the hue saturation window. Check the "Colorize" box (bottom right). Now play around with the hue slider for the color and saturation for the brightness. Click OK when done.
Depending on the letters used, you will get different effects. My end result:

All I did was add a gradient to the glow instead of adjusting the hue. It really didn't do much though
Here's two I did, I got it to look a little 3d-ish, interesting

Cool tutorial! I remember finding a discussion with all the tutorials listed but now I can't seem to find it. My kid is taking a nap and I feel like learning some more Photoshop stuff.
