| My ghetto vid card cooler
Well, after finding that the loudest fan in my computer was my video card fan, I began to think...
Why not take off that little screamer (4500rpm fan that only puts out 10cfm) and put a 80mm fan in its place? Even if I volt modded it to a lower speed, the 80mm fan will still produce more cfm and be extremely quiet.
So I began to work and got an extra pci slot filler and drilled 4 holes. I then proceded and put coat hangers through them. About 1 hour of bending later, I got what you see above.
Results: A quieter, cooler running video card Only downside is it took 2 pci slots away, but I still have 2 left that I dont even use! |

Anyone want to trade a Sparkle 300W for an Antec 300W (ones with the thermal sensors that controls the fans)? |

| Peee4? Ewww....
Not much better though...kt400 chipset Asus A7V8X
I want a NF7-S, but I dont know if more memory bandwith (3200 vs the 2400 I get) justifies the money for the new mobo and all new ram. |

hehe heatsink looks like canterwood mobos ..bang 4 the buck with bandwidth different between nf7 and your present wouldn't be cost effective . but, be more fun asus is fine mobo but lacks some nice touches like high vcore and vmem ..i got a 3600+ memmark from my epox kt400 8k9a2+ cause of them "touches" -- Hail 2 the Chief ! support our Troops ,right or wrong thats the call !! |

better bet is to swap the PSU fan for a quiet 80mm one - pabst/panaflo or whatever... |

| I actually have done that...I stuck a Panaflo M fan in there (32cfm @ 30dba). I would like to go quieter, but there is already warm air coming out. I fear that if I go lower cfm it will overheat |

@pipex.com
| have you dusted inside it lately? i cleaned out the inside of my fsp300 and it seemed to have cooler exhaust after...was surprised how mucky it was :-(
i assume you've already cut out the grill if you've changed the fan?
the titan aluminum frame 80mms are rated at 32cfm and less than 28db - might be worth trying one »www.titan-cd.com/product.asp?mod···8025M12C
or the coolermaster rifle-bearing led fans claim 32cfm at 25db »www.coolermaster.com.hk/product_···ct_id=29
how accurate their numbers are i don't know... |

@pipex.com | in case you didn't realise i meant dusted inside the psu, not the case (which i assume you do anyway)
guess i ought to finally register then i could have edited it... |

I have a 350watt one sitting under my desk due to how loud it was(and it couldn't hold volts more stable than my 600watt Robanton) -- Stock is for sissy's!:) |

| Hehe, thanks for the props.
And my ps isn't really loud...it's just the loudest thing in my computer. Comparing my machine to all my freinds, it not only ownz them in speed but also in how quiet it is.
Even compared to my parents Dell downstairs its about the same as it.
I just have to sleep with this thing (4 feet from my bed) and I normally turn it off at night because it does annoy me.
My wish list: 300W Antec (SmartPower: runs cooler and quieter) 2x256 OCZ pc3500 NF7-S v 2.0 |
