Summary - Information about Price/Speed Changes

I put together the basic info about the speed upgrade using the info in the posts to this thread

»Could it be true.

*Please post any information corrections in this thread.

**Thank you to all who posted this info in the original thread.

- What is the New Price?

$34.95/ month for speed of 1.5/128 if you qualify, otherwise for the speed of 768/128

- How do you qualify for the faster 1.5/128 speed?

The cutoff distance for the faster speed is 12,000ft from your Central Office

- How do you get the lower price/faster speed?

For now, you have to call 1-877-567-6789, and ask for Billing. There may eventually be an automatic upgrade for those who do not call.

- How long does it take to get the new speed?

It usually takes 3-5 days for the speed change to go into effect. This may vary by location.
Also, note:
You may have an outage of about an hour while your service is upgraded.

- When will my billing change?

The new price will be billed from the day the new service starts, not the day you order it, unless they are the same. You will see it reflected in your bill within a few billing cycles.

- Do I have to use the MSN software?

No, you don't have to use the MSN software.

- Does the new plan include any dialup?

No, the new plan does not include any dial up. And once you have this new plan, you can't go back to your old dial-up-included plan.

- How do I get Dial-up if I want it?

You have to find a separate dial-up plan, such as purchase Verizon’s Basic Mobility Service, which is 20 hrs $8.95/month, or other paid dial-up plan or find a free dial-up service such as NetZero or other free dial-up service.

- Does this apply to ex-GTE too or just ex-BA?

This is only be for customers on ATM (all of ex-BA area and parts of ex- GTE areas. customers on Frame-Relay will still be 768/128

- How about pricing for the Veriations Package?

The price will be $29.95 instead of $34.95 for whichever speed you qualify for.

Some additional information and corrections:
- If you use a Fujitsu Speedport DSL Modem, you're Frame-Relay, otherwise, you're ATM.
- NetZero is no longer free.

is this offer good forever or is this a limited time offer as some comcast supporter over in the comcast forum keeps telling everyone?

Yes, it's LA too. Although, Billing had a slew of problems getting my request in flow. It ended up being a triple coronary bypass of a nightmare. I am awaiting the speed boost which was predicted to take effect some time during business hours tomorrow.

NetZero is STILL free, but it limits you to 10 hrs. per month. Of course you'll have to put up with the add banners and all with the free version, but it still does come in handy during an emergency when you have to log into the web.

It's True. Call the 800 number, ask for it and if your line qualifies about a week later you get it 1.5/128 $34.95 per month plus $5.00 discount if linked as part of One-Bill or Veriations.

If you go through the first few steps of pre-qualifying and ordering DSL, you get a chart that tells you the DSL plans available to you. Right now the only one I see listed is the $34.95 1.5/128 plan.

I'm pretty sure this info used to be available without going through the steps for ordering.

Re: Summary - Information about Price/Speed Changes

As far as I can tell, the 768/128 speed as an official plan is going away.

When you call, you call to order DSL for $34.95. If you qualify for 1500/128, that's what you get.. otherwise you get 768/128.

I can also verify that this is the new price.

Just another note... I called today and asked what plans/speeds were available and the lady said that I could get 1500/386 for $34.95 at my location for residential use. Yes 386 up. Not sure if this is limited to PA or what. Maybe somebody can confirm. All I have is Verizon Budget phone service for $13.67 a month, so no Veriations reductions are included in this price.

Re: Summary - Information about Price/Speed Change

Just called VZ to check on this for my home in New Jersey, where I've already got 1500/384 at $64.99/mo including my Veriations discount.

The nice young lady I spoke with informed me that the special is for 1500/128 only, and that they are no longer offering 1500/384 in my area, but I can keep what I have, for the same price. GRRR...

Also... the billing department's number is 800-567-6789. The one listed below, 877-567-6789, is for cancellations. But they were nice enough to transfer me.

why do the frame relay customers not qualify for this?

1.5/128 plans were available here also? Any ideas?
