Spaceway is a whole different animal than DirecWay. Operating in globally assigned Ka-band spectrum, SPACEWAY employs high- performance, on-board digital processing, packet switching and spot-beam technology to offer single-hop connectivity, regardless of location.
There is no NOC or terrestrial routing involved. Oh, this is business-class service we're talking about. The DW6040 is going to be really expensive. Since you'll need a DW4020 too, your looking at around $2000* just for hardware.

| I read that too but it doesn't say if they will be high orbit (like now) or low orbit satellites. If they're high orbit single hop may help a little but most of the latency is still unvoidable and caused by the sheer distance the signal has to travel. |

It's still going to suck. That's why the sat-phone companies (e.g. Iridium) use LOW EARTH ORBIT, not geosync. Of course, the sat-phone companies went bankrupt in a big way because the market is tiny and getting smaller every day. |
