I think the problem with delay is different pieces of what you just said getting to the receiving end faster than others. I guess the best way to explain is when the second half of your word gets to the other end and decoded at the exact same time as the first half. Voice really needs to be consistent to sound correct. This can be made worse if there are re-sends due to inconsistent data (errors in the data).

When you are interrupted or in a very active conversation it really does matter. One second may not sound like much but it really is when you actually talk to someone.

The rule of thumb used to be that satellite circuits could be sold to Texans, but never to New Yorkers, solely due to the difference in their speed of speech.... Calvoiper -- VoIP--the death knell of remaining voice monopolies!
