Re: Sorry, IGGY...

As I clearly stated above I could have missed it - which I did.

ii. post, store, transmit or disseminate any information or material which a reasonable person could deem to be objectionable, offensive, indecent, pornographic, harassing, threatening, embarrassing, distressing, vulgar, hateful, racially or ethnically offensive or otherwise inappropriate, regardless of whether such material or its dissemination is unlawful;

It would be interesting to see what there reason for such a clause is? Also I could see a few 1st amendment fights starting if they ever tried to truly enforce that.

"which a reasonable person could deem to be"

That's always a statement I love when I see it - which is often. How do they expect to set that standard considering it very well could change from community to community?

So, downloading the stuff may be "OK," but uploading it is "bad." Heck, even downloading it may be "bad," since it could fall under the "store" part of the provision.

Maybe I missed it - but I see nothing related to not being able download or upload adult content within the conditions of use.

If you read their agreement, Insight allows any third party software be it p2p or otherwise. Now what Insight does forbid is sharing of pornographic or copyrighted material through the use of p2p clients or by other means transmitted using InsightBB.

Does Insight allow p2p programs like Kazaa Lite? I had one of there tech guys come out and on his laptop he had Kazaa or Kazaa Lite icon down in the quick launch.

this is a pic of 11 days of downloading.would this be considered high by an isp.
Just doing some quick math, that's about 11gigs for 11 days which would be about 30gigs for the month if your usage was generally that.

RoadRunner has just started capping users in a few areas
and set the limit at 15gigs a month.

So, by that standard, if you were on RR and in an area that's affected, you'd be over their limits by 2x's as much and would have to move to the higher tiered program, which allows for 40gigs a month at prices ranging from 79~99 per month, depending on the area.

It may be notable though that even though some areas of RR have started this, Insight RR in Columbus hasn't.
As of yet anyway.

RR also has a LOT more users than Insight BB does though so maybe this is a bigger problem for them and something that won't happen on Insight BB.

I too was getting over the 3000MB download mark before 5-16 and now get 2800's. Not that I'm whining. With 1.5MB/128 I was lucky to get 1.2MB down and 64 up. I like to play UT 2003 online. I ping 15-20 in the midwest and 20-30 on the east coast and 40-50 ms on the west coast servers without any latency which I find astounding.

I have my Arris Touchstone plugged into my WAN port on my SMC Barricade and I have two PC's running through the router. It has no bearing on my speeds. Both PC's get the same 2800/124 with both PC's online at the same time, nor does having both PC's online at the same time affect my gaming ping. My router setup in through NIC cards using CAT 5 cables.

What software firewall are you using? A setup that has a router or is networked is always a pain to troubleshoot. But it gets done every day with good results. It's not my strong suit but I can be of some help. If your running ZoneAlarm ( free,+(plus) or Pro ) I can be of even more help in certain respects. I run ZAP and see no higher speeds with it off than I do with it on. But than again I don't have a router in the mix either.

An off topic note -

I'll be offline for a little while. Installing a new power supply - my 1st stab at this - should be fun. And I have a few offline things I need to tend to this evening.

Update

The new power supply is in & knock on wood seems to be working. Now in a few weeks I'll replace the heat seek fan.

if i disable the firewall the speeds go back to normal.but when i turn the firewall back on speeds drop in half.so it's the firewall possibly causing the problem.im gonna try a different modem just to be sure.if it does it with every modem ill just have to take speed loss for the extra security.

Well if they tech just stated new packages are on the way. But didn't give any details as to what packages might be offered - then they didn't really leak anything. I've yet to see or be given any information in regards to new packages. Hopefully that info will drop in my lap soon.

As for the speeds with the router in the mix. It's most likely a router/setup issue not the modem causing the problem.

i done a speed test last week while downloading a 700mb file and got results similar to that.maybe the strict cap is only were the 1.1 upgrade has been put in to place.i dont think he was suppose to leak info about packages coming soon.well as to my uploading downloading question he told me they dont really watch it that closely.i have downloaded about 12 gb in the last few days and havent seen a notice yet.

My most recent test
2003-05-16 08:31:25 Speed test (ec) 2774/389 kbps
2003-05-16 08:30:34 Speed test (la) 2823/360 kbps
2003-05-13 14:51:03 Speed test (ec) 3115/359 kbps

You can see that after the 16th which is when the 1.1 upgrade was supposed to start my speeds went down a bit. If there getting strict about the cap why is it I see users getting 3200 to 3900kpbs in some areas. I'd like some of that considering it's almost 1000kpbs more. I just noticed Insight has dropped to #13 on this list »/archive they used to rate much higher.

I'm doing a rather large download at the moment but did a speed test any way. This is why you shouldn't use your connection while doing a test ( LOL ):D

Dropped about 200 to 300kpbs - yes. Not anything to get to uptight about. But when your used to getting right at or above your cap pretty much 24/7 it is sort of a pain. Not that it's going to make that big of difference in my downloads. It's just the principal of it.

.bmp aren't allowed on this site - so that picture won't show up. It's stated why this is - in the area were you select to add your attachment.

"Important help for images and attachments:

images bigger than 640 will be auto-thumbnailed

images will be laid out in a grid up to 3 columns wide

DO NOT INLINE TO WIDE EXTERNAL IMAGES

WE HATE BMP - BMP files are too big. Prefer GIF/JPG/PNG.

Attachments may be checked - post may NOT appear immediately!

Large files may fail to upload within 30 second limit - ZIP them Typing '»..' auto-creates a link."

As for the 2800kpbs - I've not seen a speed test go above that since DOCSIS 1.1 was announced and started being put in place. I'd previously averaged right at my cap of 3000 or above - at almost all times of day.
