| Any Northpoint/Telocity user back up?
???? ? Is there anyone who has been re-connected? ???? Note: I am now up in Palo Alto CA.
Previous contents -- 03/20/01 est.
. 1) No one is back up again after being disconnected except those who may have switched BEFORE the outage.
. 2) Telocity is saying that their users should be up in 3+1 weeks, but no one has an order number or has gotten a contact with the successor DSL provider, e.g. PacBell.
. 3) The 3+1 week window should expire about April 20-th
Let us use the Message count as the number of people who are up again, if any, and start another thread for those who are up after switching to another ISP.
================================== 04/20/01 -- Update --,
I'm up in Palo Alto with PacBell as the shared line, and a Telocity modem EXACTLY on Telocity time, but with some phone calls to check status and to remind them that the Line was properly setup. and my phone jack has not been properly moved yet.
1) It looks as though a few people are starting to be connected again.
2) It looks as though some people are getting bad info from Telocity and being encurraged to shift to PacBell directly or the Sattelite system.
The transition is not easy, but at least for some of us we are starting to be re-connected,
ADVICE: If telocity does not get back to you when you expect contact them. and it may be that the new DSL vender can't/won't give you DSL access even though NorthPoint was able to do it. [text was edited by author 2001-04-20 17:45:30] |

| reply to mll Yes. I have NorthPoint/Telocity service, which was disconnected 1-2 weeks ago. I was informed that I'd be reconnected in 3 weeks or so. What a pleasant surprise to turn on my PC today and see the taskbar icon turn green. I'm writing this with my Verizon(??? no clue who the new CLEC is)/Telocity service. I was only down for, oh, 10 days or less. Good for me, cause there was no flat-rate dial-up offered in my area by Telocity either. Guess I can cancel that 60-day for $1 EarthLink trial I'd been using .
BTW, I'm located in Westchester County, NY. |

| reply to mll I was reading the message boards before about the northern NJ Telocity customers that were reconnected without notification from Telocity. I restarted the modem and its live again. I live in southern Westchester county, about 12 miles north of Yankee Stadium. Good luck after you all try to restart your modems ! |

Telocity, Brooklyn NY...
Man telocity gets a bad rap, at least I've only got excellent service, lots of bandwidth and routing is great. There were some promptly fixed hiccups.... and not only that they are upgrading the newsservers and are much improved.
Hmm... back down, who even knows how long I was up. But make no mistake I was up. (different computer, no modem!) Maybe I should cycle my modem... even though I was up and the power had never gone off.

| reply to mll Still down in IL west suburbs as of March 22. No word from Telocity. Talked to a friend today who has Northpoint from InternetConnect and says he has not gone down in months, still up--it says Northpoint on the jack. I cannot figure this out. Heard Telocity is converting our circuits to Rhythms, don't they read the f&*$ing WSJ???. I guess I will go through this again in 8 weeks when RHTM execs parachute, their net goes dark and COVD is the only one left... |

| In Westchester NY. I was back up on 4/5 after being down from 3/28. I am now back down since Sunday 4/8. I called Telocity and they told me it was a "fluke" that I had service this weekend. I was informed that they have scheduled for Rythems to be new circuit provider but have not heard back yet. Previously, I was told that it would be Verizon. No answers available and still standing by three week time frame.
Back to waiting... |

| reply to mll Monday, April 9: PacBell came out and conditioned my line on 4/5/01. Another tech is supposed to be here today to test it, and another tech is supposed to be out on Wednesday to do (I assume) the final install and test.
I'm happy that progress is apparently occurring, but I must say that the process seems awful cumbersome and expensive for the providers. No wonder many of them are experiencing financial difficulty.
April 9: Update #1: No one showed up. After speaking with PacBell and Telocity, it seems that (contrary to what I was told) no one will show up. Telocity, according to PacBell, ordered all lines of former NP customers switched on a "self install" basis. So, according to PacBell, I now have a live DSL line that Telocity is supposed to activate on April 11. Telocity Customer Service confirmed that service is supposed to be up tomorrow. We'll see. Wednesday, April 11, 5 p.m.: Update #2: Not up, so I called Telocity customer service. After a 30 second wait, a rep comes on, listens to my story, and agrees I should be up. Says he will investigate and call back in a few minutes. After 15 minutes, he does call back. Says PacBell has not yet sent a "line completion notification" to Telocity, so they don't have all they need to get me back up ("the necessary fields are not populated"). I tell him I'll call PacBell and try to get them to do this--he says its a great idea. So, I'll call tomorrow.
Once this report is sent, he tells me they will send a new "router" and I will be up. Once again....we'll see.

Thursday, April 12: Update #3: Called PacBell this morning. They were nice, but said if Telocity needs this information, they can just call and get it, no big deal. The PacBell rep said to call Telocity and have them do the work because "that's what you're paying them for." So I called Telocity at 10:15 am. A pleasant rep tried to help but really had no info. She said she would "escalate" my inquiry, and I would hear back within the hour from a supervisor. By 4:30pm, I had no response, so I called again. Telocity could not tell me why I had not heard back, but this rep told me they need the data from PacBell to configure my new gateway before they send it to me. He thought that process would 2-4 days after they received the data. So I said PacBell has the data, my circuit is in, why don't you call them and get the info instead of sitting back and waiting for it. He could not give me any response, but said he would again "escalate" my inquiry, and I should hear from someone shortly. Right.
Observation: The ball is now entirely in Telocity's court, and how fast the service goes back up is now entirely within their control. I don't have the sense that they are pushing the process very aggressively, so if you want your service, you better call them.

Friday, April 13, 5:15 p.m.: Update #4: Despite two "escalations" I have yet to receive any communication of any type from Telocity, so I called them yet again. This time, I am told that Telocity still has not received a line completion report from PacBell. When I ask them how long they are going to wait, they cannot tell me. When I tell them of my conversation with PacBell [#3 above] and ask them to call, they refuse. I am now told that seven business days from the 4/11 line delivery date I will receive a fully configured modem and my service will be restored.
The ball remains in Telocity's court, and still seems to me that, contrary to their 3/29 email, they are not doing everything they can to expedite this service transition. PacBell was done on 4/5, and because Telocity refuses to make a 5 minute call, I get to wait roughly another 2 weeks.
I wonder how many other customers of this Internet Service Provider are getting this kind of service experience. If they got enough temporary help in, it seems to me that this kind of workload spike could be overcome rather rapidly.

Wednesday, April 18, 1:40 p.m.: Update #5:Telocity now says that they in fact had a line completion report from PacBell on 4/11, and that my modem should have shipped by now. I politely observe that every time I talk with them, I am told something different. The tech says that they have a lot of new people and that fact probably accounts for the varying responses. She checks on the status, tells me my new modem shipped today and that I should have it within 48 hours. Once again, we'll see.

| Still down in Park Slope, Brooklyn...Northpoint / Telocity...I am wondering how they plan on contacting me to tell me when it is working...I havent received one communication of any sort from either Northpoint or Telocity...You'd think there would be an email / phone call letter etc...Such horrible customer service...And the page which "offers" free dialup accts till it gets resolved doesnt have any way to find a local access # on it:

Anon | reply to mll Service went down March 29th and they tried to schedule me with a new line but I'd no longer have my 384K line, it would be 144k. Not only that but my cost goes from $60 to $99!!!! So glad that I called for @home service the day DSL was cut. I'm waiting for Telocity to put in a new line for 384K soon. Hope it comes through. |

| reply to pro I had the same situation.... Out of no where I came up Friday afternoon, and was up until Sunday. I called Telocity for some answers and the Tech support was clueless.... I was told my the circuit was not changed yet from Northpoint to Rhythms and that they had no idea how I was up or did they know when I will be cut over.
I have had it with DSL. It my time for Starband since cable modem and ADSL is not available in Bridgewater NJ. |

| reply to mll Not only can I not get information on my change from Northpoint..
But in order to get another DSL provider:
- I have to cancel my Telocity and have them remove their crap - Telocity can't find my account because when they originally setup my account, some fat chick with ranch-dressing-laden fingers missed a number in my phone (9-digit instead of 10-digit) so I have to have my account recreated, before I can cancel my account - In order to recreate my account, I have to have my old account information
