| reply to mll Re: Any Northpoint/Telocity user back up?
I have the feeling Telocity is just give us the run around. I have called them almost daily to check on the status of my line and get a different answer every time. I'm in an eastern suburb of Cleveland and should be getting service from Rythums. If I check my order status on-line it tells me there is no order in progress. Any one in the Cleveland area have any luck getting back up? |

| reply to mll Longmont, Colorado (North Denver Metro area) The one thing I really liked about Telocity was that they provided me with DSL when everyone else said it wasn't possible. Granted it was only about 350kbs, but it was better than dialup. When Northpoint went under, I feared the worst and my fears came true. I was to be switched to Rhythms. However, a line test proved that I am too far from the CO. I tried Earthlink and they said the same thing. I understand that Rhythms & Earthlink use a different technology (line splitting). It's too bad Telocity can't find someone else to use Northpoint's line/jack for DSL. Also, if you are in the Longmont area, I do understand that some company www.mesanetworks.net is providing something similiar to Sprint Broadband. |

| Hey Shaka! I'm in Longmont too, on the short end of the DSL stick, as it were. No one seems to be able to do for me what XO and NorthPoint did, a lil' 144/144 IDSL line that still shows green! I tried 'splainin to Qwest that they could hot-cut the line, but they say no they can't. And I'm too far for IDSL. Sure, when they check my voice line! But, as I told them, I have an unbundled loop that NorthPoint provisioned and they could use it! Oh no we can't.
I hate them.
I want my DSL I want my DSL.
Mesa Networks says the tower on my end of town should be up by the end of the week!
But they say they're having problems with their other tower

| Why is it that the folks you talk to at the ISPs don't seem to know anything about Hot Cuts or pre conditioned lines? I tryed to tell Cavalier Telephone they could use my old Northpoint Line and they told me "Oh no, you can't use a data line for ADSL". Whats the matter not enough noise or bridged taps for ya? |

| reply to Jake359 Hey Jake359,
Yes it is very frustrating. I raved about Telocity because they did what no one was able to do. And this is get me DSL in some fashion. Telocity has now terminated my account. I can not access my webmail or sign on to the member page anymore. If I send an email to my Telocity email address, I receive a delivery failure. I'll use their dialup until they shut that down. I'm considering Mesanetworks. In Longmont, we can receive AT&T digital cable (from the bad guys), but not cable modem access yet. Let me know if you receive any new information about DSL or if you try Mesanetworks, if they work out ok. |

I know. It's truly maddening. Qwest offers IDSL in my area, but can't provision it on my "existing" lines (I have 3 phone lines + the NorthPoint dedicated line). I have tried to explain that I have an unbundled loop, free of load coils and bridge taps, that NorthPoint had provisioned and conditioned for me. And my IDSL, while not as quick as I might like, worked flawlessly. Why they can't just remove that line from NorthPoint's DSLAM and connect it to one of theirs, I don't know. Qworst claims to "not have the 'expensive' equipment in the CO" that NorthPoint has. I have seen reported elsewhere that the Baby Bells just wait until the competition dries up before "upgrading" in certain areas, so they can charge what they want. It's maddening that NorthPoint could get the service going, it's still hot and showing green, but no one can get a hold of that line and plug it back into the network.
but I digress... "Ride the Lies" seems more and more true every day. -- the future is wireless... |

This is like group therapy. I think I'd go nuts without DSLReports and the feedback from everyone.
I'm like you. I have the new copper NP ran just for my circuit. They even had to dig to get it under the street. I'm looking at the green light on the modem getting sync signal from something. It's worked great for 10 months, never saw it go down.
My CO has 4 providers, I know at least Covad will do IDSL and say they have room. Just move the wires.

@Denver1.Le | reply to shakaboy I signed up for Telocity right before the Northpoint problem, but Rythms was out last week to hook me up. The tech reports line is ready, but I am still waiting for router/modem from Telocity. |

Anon | reply to Jake359 Jake I am in the same shape as you. A Hellocity customer with a NP line. I talked to QWEST as well I had to call ALOT to get an answer that I was satisfied with (even if it was a no answer). The answer I got is that since Qwest is considered the 'phone company' here, once they release the line to a third party it is hands off forever per FCC ruling. So they said I may be able to get another third party company to reprovision it, but they absolutly can't touch the line.
I am now waiting to see what cable is going to do over the next few days. @Home is available at the next block up but stops at the 8900 block and my house number is 9019. Am I just living wrong or what?!? Anyway they said they may open up new areas 1 May so I am crossing fingers and toes that I will have it available. I would sure like the static IP I ad with Telocity but the cable price is tempting.

Anon | reply to SparkChaser I have the same issue in st louis. and now telocity says that no one will service my line, and they are going to cancel me. I've been waiting for months for telocity to hand me over to the next crappy carrier. However since no one will even touch my line, I'm screwed. I hate telocity. I hate dsl. btw telocity, that Direct PC discount offer SUCKS, because I'm a mac user, and your exclusivity will cause your demise. I await the bankruptcy of telocity. |

Verizon was here last week, and did SOMETHING to the DSL line, but I'll be damned if I can find out what they did. Verizon won't talk to me, and Telocity says they don't know what Verizon did.
I was hoping that any change was good, but that was right before Telocity said it could take 3 months before service is restored. I've had wonderful service from Telocity, it would be shame to leave... but 3 months is a long time... |

LOL!!!! thanks for the laugh, Of course they can use your old NP pair, A-tech is using my old one for their ADSL when I switched. ADSL does not HAVE TO BE shared, but can run on a separate pair; This is just not first choice.

I got an email on 4.11.01, from telocity saying that my "estimated reconnection date" would be 4.20.01, with verizon.
It's now 5.2.01, after at least 6 calls to telocity, no one knows when verizon will reconnect, nor when my "new" gateway will be shipped. Opt. Online is available about 2 blocks away, so it's literally going to be available here any day now.
Since telocity is now offering 2 free months, a $100 value, they should pay cablevision the $100 installation fee for me to get cable... :P
p.s. A few of the Telocity techs are very cool, i'm not blaming them.......thanx especially to SW.
p.p.s. Telocity took 11 days to reply to one email, and hasn't replied to one from 4.27.01 yet. |

Anon | reply to mll I've been down 5 weeks and counting. My line was supposed to be switched to PacBell 4/24, called Telocity 4/25 to see what was up, they showed the line had been switched, and I had to wait another week for the new modem. Yesterday (5/1) the modem arrived, hooked it up, no connection. Called Tech support, he had me do a bunch of stuff to test things, still no dice. He said he suspected PacBell hadn't really completed the switch yet and I have to wait another 72 hours. If it ever does come back up, I'll have to see what the speed is, but I suspect I'll be taking advantage of their 2 free months then switching to cable. |

| reply to aliasrlz LOL Everyone I have to write this, you all are witty and funny as hell. I couldnt stop laughing reading this thread. I apologize to those without service, but I got to admit I admire the humor you find in your situation. (actually because there is little for us to do BUT laugh) We all know DSL is such a new technology that there we are the lab rats. I dont mind though and it seems like you all dont either. A tad bit frustrating sometimes but....... makes you appreciate what you got a bit more and take it less for granted hopefully. Again thanks for the laugh all, I hope to continue to be able to hear all of your witty comments in the yrs to come. | reply to mll Well, after being down since 3-29-01, I am back up. This whole experience has been one clusterfuck after another. And it's not over yet. After being at the mercy of Verizon (they picked me up as last mile carrier) I finally got a line switch date of 4-25-01. When no called or emailed by the 27th I called Telocity and no one knew when the switch would be done. They just told me what I already knew...The switch should be done by the 25th. I was escalated to level 2 tech support....whhhooaaa. I was told someone would get back to me within 48hrs, if not I was to call back and give them my really important secret ticket #. Well as you can guess, nobody got back to me. So, when I came home on 5-2-01 ready to raise hell with tech support, I saw the Magical Telocity Gateway on my back porch! (ahhh...all is well in the world) I ran inside and proceeded to hook it up. after 3 attempts and 1hr of going to various jack in my house, I could not sync up with telocity. So once again I was back on hold with tech support. The technician said that i had to try all the jack in the house until I found one that synced. I informed him that I was standing outside with my gateway and the network box on the side of my house and i was plugged directly into my dsl line. This set him back a little, because their went his brush off. (try connecting to all the jacks in the house) So I was issued anther Golden Ticket..(ooompa, ooompa) Well, when I came home on the 3rd I had 2 green lights on the wonderbox and started to get happy again. I clicked on my browser and "The heavens opened up and God said..You shall have DSL, But it will be half the speed you had with NP" I went from 768/768 with NP to 300/82 with Verizon. So once again I have another Golden ticket and was told that if the speed doesn't increase in 72 hrs to call back. Cable access goes online here in June, So I will be switching over, but in the meantime I will continue calling Telocity and complaining, just because they have been worthless...SO LONG TELOCITY and VERIZON can KISS MY ASS!!!!!

| reply to mll Finally back up
After five weeks, and numerous phone calls, I'm back up. I can't believe the headache this was.
I called and got so many different answers, that when I heard 1.5 weeks ago that my DSL line was provisioned, and that all they needed to do was send me the modem, I thought "Yeah, right." Last Monday, I called again, and was told that they had sent it that day. I started to be hopeful. By Thursday, I was less hopeful. I called, got a tracking number, and was told that if I didn't get it when I got home from work to give them a call Friday and ask. I called Airborne Express Friday, and was told that there was "no such address" and that they were sending it back. Not the first time I've had this problem with Airborne Express. I called up Telocity, and told them to send me a new modem. The first person indicated that they "Couldn't possibly" send out the new modem without getting the returned one back. I asked to speak to a supervisor, and was hung up on. I called back and asked right away to speak to a supervisor. After waiting 15 minutes, I talked to this beligerant supervisor who finally, reluctantly, gave me the number for billing. Another 30 minutes on hold, and I told Billing that I had ordered Earthlink on the other phone line in the house (I ordered it 2.5 weeks after the Northpoint failure, and it was scheduled to be up tomorrow). Effectively, Telocity was in a race, I told them. The new modem arrived the next day. What do you know, Airborne Express COULD find my house.
Unfortunately, Northpoint had installed a very convienient jack under my desk. We have somebody installing new phone jacks around the house today, so I can access it from just about anywhere.
And, of course, I have faster downloads, but slower uploads. I wonder how this'll effect my gaming. |

Anon | reply to mll Re: Any Northpoint/Telocity user back up?
Actually, DSL is far from new technology. Im not trying to argue or anything, but DSL was actually an obsolete technology before they released it 5 years ago. The future will be with a tech similar to cable Modems, although i hope they work that out. But DSL aint the future, Gigapop is already in the works, and seatlle customers should be getting 100 MB Connections within the next two years... I wish atlanta would think like they do... oh well, 56K here i come. -Rexer |

| I'm back up, on SBBD. Telocity dumped me and I had no other alternative... Buh-Bye Telocity. SBBD may not be the greatest broadband connection in the world, but I'm fairly confident that Sprint isn't going out of business anytime soon. The same can't be said for Rhythms and Covad... -- Someday we'll all look back at this and plow into a parked car... |
