| Siecor Splitter Bad??
I recently did a self install of 1500/128 (Covad). Also installed a Siecor splitter. My download speed was between 400 and 480. Upload ok at 115 or so. I am probably 13 to 14 k from the CO. Noise margins were 6 up and 5 down. Have cat5e direct from 643 to splitter. I decided to do some testing. Disconnected inside telco wiring and wired the 643 direct to the NID. D/L speed went up to 500+. Upgraded the firmware to AY.4. D/L speed increased to 800+! Hooked the Siecor splitter back up w/o inside telco wire. D/L speed dropped to 600. Hooked up inside wiring to splitter, D/L speed dropped again to about ~500. Replaced the Siecor splitter with the (no-no) microfilter install (at NID, serving entire inside system). D/L speed went back up to 750-800. Noise margins are 15 up and 10 down. The splitter apparently loads the circuit down and I assume it is defective. Anybody else experience this? |

| Although I've not seen anyone mention such a failure it's certainly possible and your diagnosis appears sound. I'm also confident with your diagnosing skills it's hooked up right. I'm running a Seicor and find the performance resembles direct-to-NID. (I've also jumped to conclusions on dynamically changing data, too). [text was edited by author 2003-05-17 04:59:42] |
