 | MR814v2 WLAN disconnet afterct25mins Hi !
I use my MR814 with my Centrino notebook (Acer TM800). Everything works fine, but after about 25mins the WLAN always disconnects. It is not possible to reconnect, although XP says: "wireless connection available". The only solution is to reset the MR814. After this, I get a new connection. The notebook is placed about 2m away from the router.
Does anybody know this problem ? The router has firmware Version 5.00 release 00. I just bought it this week (I am located in Europe).
Thx for help,
Chris |

So, anyway you are not alone. |

 | reply to Calypso2003 i have the same problem, using a samsung x10 and an acer 803tcib. i have contacted the support of netgear a weak ago via e-mail with no response till now (05/20/03). the mr814v2 stays at home, we have a lot of access points here at the university every one of them works fine so the problem must come with the mr814v2. i'll hope someone in here will find a solution for this problem or NETGEAR will find this forum realise the bad advertise and fix the problem ---- sorry for worse grammar .. count my mistakes ....and tell me icq:1040017 or moes@gmx.net |

 | reply to Calypso2003 Have not had any problems with the netgear usb adapter, or a pcmcia card, with the 814. |

 | RomeoJett. Is your 814 the MR814v2 (version 2) that just came out? With the 5.0 firmware. Is your laptop a centrino machine with the Intel Pro 2100 wireless adapter?
This is the configuration that seems to have trouble.
I have been talking to netgear support about this and dancing the wait for escalation dance. Since it takes 25 mins to repro, it's been "try this and call back if it doesnt work" I've uninstalled the drivers...reset the router, etc.. Went to my friends house where he has an old linksys router...my laptop kept dropping packets but the connection was constant and didnt go down after 5 hours..so it seems that something is up with the mr814v2. |

tempman join:2003-04-30 Tarrytown, NY | reply to Calypso2003 I think it may be the Centrino/Intel set up causing the problem. I have the MR814v2 and have not had any problems with 2 laptops with built in WiFi. One is a Toshiba with an Orinoco inside the other is a IBM with a Cisco set up inside. No problems with either. I have had the router for 3 weeks now, no re-boots. |

miju @dip0.t-ipconnect.de | reply to Calypso2003 Well, I have the same Problem, Acer TM 803 and MR814v2. I've talked to the Netgear Support in Germany and they told me they know the problem and the technical support is working on a fix. The lady on phone said also the will contact me by phone or email if there is a solution available... |

 | It's good to know that I'm not crazy, because I'm having the exact same problem, only with a totally different set up (814v2/Mac/Airport/10.2).

 | reply to Calypso2003 Hey miju, please let us know if you hear anything, I'm having the exact same problem. I went ahead and emailed Intel in case they can shed some light on the subject. I tried setting up the router with the laptop's MAC address, which brought the connection back up without having to reset it, but it got dropped after almost exactly 27 minutes again. I'll keep checking back for more info. |

 | With my Acer 800LCi Notebook the Router seems to drop the connection after 5-10 seconds. The WINXP network statistics show the connection as connected, though the connection dropped. Very strange problem.

| reply to Calypso2003 I had the same model and firmware version as you and eventually returned it to the store and got the LinkSys. The 814v2 would instantly lock-up when ever my Socket WLAN turned on. Netgear must have tested the router with only Netgear WLANs cards before releasing it to production.

miju @dip0.t-ipconnect.de | reply to Calypso2003 well, the best method seems to be to look at the netgear page for updates, every day |

durell join:2003-01-31 Arlington, VA | reply to trickpony I think it's the problem of MR 814 rather than Intel. I have pentium 226, using MA 401, and another desktop using D-Link wired NIC, and have the same problem. It happens every morning! it's really annoying! |

 | Same problem with my WIRED connection (haven't even tried connecting my laptop via wireless yet). I also have the V2 and an HP with AMD processor. Tech support was absolutely useless in my case. I returned the first V2 per tech support and am having the same problem with the second.
I don't care to wait for them to cure this. Any other router recommendations? |
|
 | Anyone got any solution?

 | reply to trickpony Try to deinstall the microsoft patch Q815485 (WPA Wireless Security Update in Windows XP). Solves my problems !!
Greetings from germany ! |
|
 | Hi!
How did you remove the Q815485 patch ? Did you install the patch especially or is it included in WIN XP Service Pack 1?
The Add/Remove Programs feature from Windows XP's Control Panel doesn't list that patch nor any other patches as shown here: »www.intel.com/support/network/wi···d944.htm
So how can I remove that patch?

 | If you use the windows update page, do you see any suggested updates ? Normaly this page shows you which updates your system needs. If the Q815485 patch is still listed on the windows update page, you didn't install the patch and you have another problem than I had.
The patch is not included in SP1.
Did you install the newest driver for the intel pro 2100. I use version 1.16. Get it from the IBM ftp server. Try to use the PROSET software from intel. You can get more information about the quality and strength of the link.
Give me your feedback, if i could help you a little bit. I know how annoying this problem is !!
