| Week Eleven Contest...Sunrise, Sunset Open subject again, for this week. However, the pictures have to be taken during sunrise or sunset (they don't, however, have to be of a sunrise or sunset, though).
The second twist is in the way of an experiment. My poor judges are having a harder and harder time, so one of them from this week came up with a (for the particular judge) very surprising suggestion: a poll.
This is how it will work...on Friday evening, ten or so will be chosen to be in the poll, and the poll will be put up. It will remain open until Saturday evening, by which time (hopefully) someone will have garnered a victory. If there is a tie, well, then I drag the ultimate arbiter into it, and she makes the decision.
Finally, last week's winner is sharondippity 's photo of a lily.
The rules:
Limit one entry per person, per week. Discussion is discouraged. (though that doesn't stop the creation of a 'companion' thread, for that purpose). Remember that the picture will be reduced to 200 wide x140 high. -- the large print giveth, and the small print taketh away ***ATMFAQ**DIFAQ*** |

Wow it's so hard to choose. I have three good ones but I'll enter this one. Right out my windown on August 31. Sorry for the date burned into the picture. It was one of my first shots with my camera. -- This is Times Square. The next stop will be Main Street-Flushing. Stand clear of the closing doors please. |

This is a bad scan of the original photo. I took this while stationed at Misawa AB, Japan using a Minolta X-700 camera with a sepia filter. |

My wife and I, against the sunset in Punta del Este, Uruguay, in December 1999 (we weren't even engaged at the time).
Since I am on of the subjects of the picture, a clarification is in order. The shutter release was actually pressed by my mother. However, the idea, setup and framing were all mine. I guess I can at least claim co-authorship...
Details:
Scanned from a 4x6 print, taken with a Nikon N50 and a regular 35-80 Nikon lens. I actually had my mother shoot a full 24 picture cartridge, with this one emerging the winner. I don't remember the settings, but the basic ingredients are there: high shutter speed, high f stop, stunning sunset, a refreshing breeze and two people in love. |

The mountain range I see out my back door. The Great Salt Lake is just on the other side of those mountains. I see sunsets like this on a regular basis.
