| My Telocity/NP line hasn't gone down yet in Maple Shade NJ (every time I write something to that effect, I expect the connection to suddenly die!)

| Another "shader" Nope, not down... and you're with Telocity too? IDSL or something else? (I assume IDSL but you could be in an area that's just enough closer to the CO to get better speeds) I remember some weeks ago (around St. Patty's Day) Telocity was working with Northpoint to get my line working right (it would just bomb out all the time) then one night I was totally down, I called once again to find out what was going on and later that night *bing*! I got a call from Telocity tech support saying they fixed the problem and the line has been fine since (I *know* if I keep saying my line is ok it will die - my line is horrible! my line is horrible! ) Almost as if they had switched me to another provider then! I know that isn't possible (NP was threatening to charge ISPs $1000 is they started switching people) but it's just...strange... that the line suddenly got fixed and it's still up when other people in my area are down? -- Is xDSL becoming a four-letter word? |

Anon | Heh, yep..nother "Shader" here. Actually, I was a PhoenixDSL customer (SDSL..784...$40 a month..nice!) Then Megapath bought Phoenix and they decided to not do residential service. They gave us up to Telocity and now here I am. Everything was ok until this NP thingy happened. I do, however, HATE the Telocity contraption that I have to use now. (With PhoenixDSL I was using a 3Com DSL modem..nice and small) Anyway, Telocity told me that I would be able to keep the same speed but might have to pay 50 a month. I was happy with that I suppose. BUT, from what I can gather, they don't offer SDSL?!? Who knows, I guess I got the big ol' shaft. Oh, and what do you have? ADSL? Lemme know.. I would love to know how the hell you're still up and never went down if you were a NorthPoint Cust. Thanks Carrie! |

| I started out with PSN - they went bankrupt :P and I was switched to Telocity. The "contraption" you have - that must be the Telocity gateway. This could be why my line is still up and yours isn't - I don't use the Gateway because I have IDSL (can't get anything else because i am too far from the CO - so I pay the same price for only 144/144, and some places charge *more* for IDSL). I still use the same Copper Rocket modem I received when my line was through NP/PSN. Telocity IDSL customers don't use the Gateway... it took them a while to get me back online after PSN died because they (Telocity) usually don't offer IDSL and they had to set up the network to support IDSL, and that took them until February. Perhaps (though I don't know why...) people with IDSL are still connected and others are not?? I'm curious about this too! As for offering SDSL...I know Verizon only supports ADSL right now (which was who they were going to switch you to) so probably that's why you couldn't get SDSL anymore. As for getting the shaft, at least you aren't stuck with 144 And I can't get cable! (courtesy of AT&T - now where have I heard *that* name before? My area uses AT&T instead of Comcast (does all of Maple Shade use AT&T cable?) and AT&T cable doesn't offer broadband in this area :P) -- Is xDSL becoming a four-letter word? |

Anon | reply to Anon There are a number of Customers who have northpoint as their line provider that have not gone down. While most customers have gone down and their circuit providers are being switched there are a number them at this moment who are still running fine for right now! |

Anon | reply to carrieg2 144! eeeeww! Nope AT&T covers my area of Shade as well. No cable for me either..doh. I did hear, however, that Comcast was headed our way. May be the break we're lookin for!! I was REALLY happy with Phoenix...such a bummer they went belly up. I guess my outtage has alot to do with my having ADSL now..who knows..its hard to get a good answer. |

| reply to Anon Hey tech, do you happen to work for Telocity? Any chance you have some info? Is there a note of hostility in yer post? [text was edited by author 2001-04-11 16:13:10] |

Anon | reply to carrieg2 I too had IDSL through PSN. And then, telocity in february. However, my service went down as with everyone elses. (copper Rocket modem too) And yes, AT&T is in my area, but my area isnt ready yet. However, i must say i am glad that Telocity is switching my area to bellsouth for a carrier, because they dont do anything for IDSL, they were forced to add repeaters to my area... NO MORE IDSL!!! ive waited years for this. ADSL and a static IP... I cant wait to start up my Counter Strike Server... so far im in Final Loop qualification and should be getting my gateway soon. Ive heard a lot of qulams about the gateway. And as i have never used one, i must say it looks pretty cool. Supports USB, RJ45, and Parallel connections out of the same box (or so i understand.) Good luck to you Carrieg. -Devin |

| reply to Anon Telocity was kind enough not to inform me that my line was going to PacBell. Surprise, I've had access for several days now via cable, easy install runs without a glitch.
Bigger surprise, PacBell didn't show or complete the installation yesterday, I wasn't told the type of service they were going to install but I'm guessing a line sharing service that I don't want. Go figure.
Next surprise. I emailed Telocity to cancel my line nearly a week ago and they are still trying to install it. Anybody wonder where all the money goes? I don't.
I called customer care and held for 5 mins to be told I'd have to go to billing. I was disconnected when the rep tried to transfer me.
I've been on hold for about 10mins now trying to cancel the line. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, uh oh a voice. It's saying I can leave a message for the billing department and they'll get back to me in two business days, more music now. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, three more minutes and I got a person. Nice person who tells me it will take 1-2 weeks to ship me a return label so I can send them my Gateway. All together about 20 mins to get it canceled.
Oh and the cancelation will take nearly 2 days to process.
Any bets that PacBell tries to complete the transition, Telocity shows my service as active and I have to cancel again and/or get billed for the price of the gatway?? |

As many of user posted in Telocity forum, most likely that Telocity has already forgotten your cancellation request and will continue to bill you instead of sending any return labels. If you want to cancel, send them sertified mail and start dispute the charges on your credit card.
