i don't believe you can. Not even if you have 50% of the file already and you try to view the avi - won't work, i've tried it.
Most respectable BT sites like suprnova.org will make sure the torrent is what they say it is before they release it on their site, so no worries about getting a "dud" (something common on kazaa as well as other p2p networks).
