| Has the download cap been changed ?
I have ran several speed tests since around the middle of May and cannot get much above 2800 dn.
Before then I was able to always get 3000 or more down sometimes 3400, I wonder if someone in this area can check there modem settings to see if we have been changed to 2800/128.
I have never been able to check mine or I would. Looking at the speed test archives here »/archive/insig···t=Search for the 460** zip code Insight ISP I do not see anything higher than 2800 dn since about the middle of May ? Anyone ? Thanks -- Dave hudson |

| reply to dahudson This was being discussed in this thread also »question about downloading and uploading
It may just be the speed test or something else causing the behavior. But it does seem odd that some of us have started to see this since the 16th. Keep in mind not all areas are being updated to DOCSIS 1.1 at the same time. Or so I've been told - it should be a 3 week process. So if the DOCSIS 1.1 is the source of this new phenomenon - the fact that it's being rolled out in areas at different times - might account for the difference in user experiences.
Even my upload seems a bit lower honestly. »/speedtests/25···53577646

I'm running XP Pro SP1 ( NTFS ) with latest updates. Kaspersky AVP in real time, ZAP, using Motorola SB5100 for my modem.
I can say these results to not reflect the great results I was getting last week with this exact setup. -- Test Your Security Team Z Member Cable Modem Diagnostics InsightBB 3000/384 XP PRO [text was edited by author 2003-05-22 00:55:47] |

| reply to dahudson Are all of you seeing these reduced speeds using docsis 1.1 modems? The reason I ask is I seem to recall reading something quite a while back before docsis 1.1 was even finalized and introduced that there was the potential for this type of issue to arise with 1.1 networks.
The issue was that if a company transitioned over to 1.1 but still allowed regular docsis modems on that network, then users of 1.1 modems could potentially see slowdowns and increased latency while those using original docsis modems wouldn't see that.
The jist of it all was that docsis 1.1 modem users traffic would fall second in line to docsis 1.0 traffic and have to wait because of fragmentation issues, potentially resulting in latency and some slowdowns for 1.1 modem users.
I don't know what ever became of that issue and if it was ever finally resolved but I do recall reading about it and there being some kind of issue there originally.
The conclusion of the article I read was that the way to solve it would be to require everyone to use a 1.1 modem but that doesn't seem to be what insight is doing.
Anyways, something to maybe look more into. It very well may have been resolved since then because this is quite a while back that i read about it.
It would also be interesting to know whether those seeing this >have been upgraded to 1.1 >and are using 1.1 modems And whether those Not seeing it are using just docsis modems.

| reply to dahudson My download speed has dropped too, I'm now only getting 2650 down but my upload is still at 123. I don't know if this has to do with the docsis 1.1 upgrade or not but I can tell you that I'm running an ancient 3com modem that is not docsis 1.1 compliant so if it does have something to do with the 1.1 upgrade then it seems to effect everyone not just those with 1.1 modems.
Also, I noticed this morning that my IP address has changed.(It has not changed for well over a year). After losing connectivity this morning my modem recycled itself and when it came back up I had the new IP address. |

| reply to dahudson This comes from the Arris web site.
I keep reading about DOCSIS 1.1. What does it mean to consumers?
"DOCSIS 1.1 is the newest standard for cable modems, which implements improvements in bandwidth management and security for cable modem operators. When these modems become available in early 2002, cable operators will have a greater choice of services to offer their customers, including varied levels of bandwidth at varied prices."
Sure sounds like InsightBB has decided 2800MB cap is now the rule of thumb since it is rolling out DOCSIS 1.1 and has control over bandwidth speed. I would not be surprised to see an additional charge for 3000MB D/L like they did to go from 128 to 384 up. No where on their web site do they garuntee 3000MB so there is no recourse. |

| reply to dahudson Modems are not running at 1.1 yet unless they shipped with 1.1 in them already, Arris and SB5100 are the only ones that I am aware of that have so far that people mention here. Insight could manage bandwidth before with 1.0, but it is handled better with 1.1 and has the ability to guarantee bandwidth too. So you are getting 2800 and not 3000, big deal, not getting into that again.
