Customer service issues are an appropriate topic for this forum. While Comcast isn't alone - satisfaction for the entire cable industry stinks - it makes me wonder: How can these companies survive with such poor ratings?

Commentary for the study states two reasons: monopoly and technology.

It's true, cable offers many advantages if your plant is clean. But is that enough? Maybe the monopolistic aspect is key.

Something that's been nagging at me about this is that well, what SHOULD she do instead? With a background that warrants working for Comcast, wouldn't she just have a job with some other telecom company that people would raise a stink about as well? Heck whatever job the Governor's wife has could possibly be an influence be it from pizza delivery to waste management. How many thousands of people does Comcast employ? I mean, it's just a job folks, let the woman earn some money.

A liberal advocacy group has asked the attorney general's office to investigate whether the governor had a conflict of interest in vetoing a tax bill that could have cost his wife's employer money.

Tom Hucker, executive director of Progressive Maryland, said yesterday the group wants Attorney General J. Joseph Curran Jr. to examine Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr.'s veto of a bill that would have prevented corporations from shifting assets to Delaware to avoid taxes.

Records show that Comcast Cable Communications Inc. has hundreds of subsidiaries incorporated in Delaware, and first lady Kendel Ehrlich is a part-time Comcast employee.

"For the governor to veto a bill, and by vetoing it presumably makes millions of dollars for his wife's employer, it looks like a conflict of interest to the average person," Hucker said.

The attorney general's office did not have an immediate response yesterday to Hucker's written request.

Progressive Maryland, a coalition of labor, religious and community groups that advocates for living wage laws and other issues, was a strong supporter of the loophole-closing bill, which was expected to generate at least $35 million in tax revenue for the state. Ehrlich rejected the bill last month, knocking the state budget out of balance.

I see nothing wrong with avoiding taxes legally. There are a lot of Comcast practices I don't like, but avoiding taxes is not one of them. Why should any entity pay more taxes than absolutely necessary?

Congratulations on your appointment to moderator, I am sure the rest of the moderators are glad you are here to tell them how to do their job, even though they have not officially been told you are a moderator. Once again, if you don't like something don't read it. Just another case of comcast giving people of influence jobs. The feds should investigate them, but with Michael Powell in office, forget it. Another patronage appointment courtesy of daddy Colin Powell.
