 Problems with routers since Friday?

Please take a look at the following thread: http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/remark,6927633~root=equip,16~mode=flat

It seems many router users are having problems all of a sudden. I've never had a problem using a router with Adelphia before. Can anyone shed some light on this.....PLEASE?

Do your modems pull public Ip addresses from Adelphia?
Can you ping out by Ip address through the router if it pulls an Ip?

I'm having problems with my router here in Pittsburgh, PA.

If I have my router plugged in, it pulls an IP address and everything is set up correctly, but I can't get to the Internet at all through it. As soon as I plug in my computer directly to the modem, it works fine.

This happened about 6 months ago when they found out that someone's router was broadcasting out to their network, was a firmware issue or something. I hope that they figure it out again! I hate not having my computer on the net.

I have the 1.44.2 dec 13 2002 firmware update also and just for the sake of trying it again I went thru jeggedda procedures to the T.I still have no connection thru the router/cable modem only thru the pc/cable modem. It is just common to restart your pc and unplug and replug router/modem after changes so they can take effect. It is just funny because my router comunicates w/modem and assigns dns addresses ect and I have no problems on my internal network.I guess I am on a wait and see basis.I am tired of having to reset my router settings and forwarding for my server after trying all the dianogstics and so called resets, fixes and mac cloning.I have posted a reply to linksys w/no reply yet.

Tonethack...what ip address are you showing with the router connected in your Control panel..local area connection....support tab ? Are you showing 192.168.1.1 or the other defunct ip address? And if you click on repair, does it pop up immediately that it's ok?

Hook the router up and tun a trace from a cmd window 64.58.76.225

Post the results.

Adelphia are currently in the process of changing many DHCP servers. With these new servers come new DNS servers.
If you have DNS set as static in your router, when the DNS servers are switched off you are SOL.
Might be worth checking.

Interesting. My internet went out this past Monday, and I called Adelphia.. eventually we got to my DNS settings, and the guy had me change those, mentioning that Adelphia had changed some things recently (the DHCP servers I'm guessing). So I do that, and everythings fine, internet connectivity is back.

So come yesterday evening, service goes out again. I check it out again this afternoon, and still out. I go through all the procedures - cycling power, rebooting, checking all settings. All my ping requests time out. I can set a traceroute to go and every once in a rare while it will hit a single IP and then time out everything else.

So I call Adelphia again, and eventually I hook up the cable modem directly to a PC.. and voila, internet access. I'm using a Linksys BEFSR41 router, and a Surfboard 3100 modem. The setup has been working fine over a year and a half until yesterday.

I guess I'll have to try a new modem or router :/

I had problems with one system on my network >> switched everything from static back to auto >> problem gone.

Well, I updated the firmware on my Linksys BEFSR41 and everything worked again. Weird... but I'm glad I didn't have to buy a new modem or router
