You'll get those fees with USPS too, unless it's being sent via priority mail. Basically if it's not being sent priority, there's a large chance Canadian customs will seize the package and charge PST/GST + $5.00 handling fee.
That's still a lot cheaper than UPS's usurious brokerage fees.
