 | Access Zyxel 645 Anyone know how to access the Zyxel Prestige 645 modem provided by Earthlink? It's connected to my Netgear MR814 router. I tried pinging 192.168.1.1 and nothing. |

»ftp://ftp.zyxel.com/p645series/documen···uide.pdf
You probably just made a mistake or missed something somewhere along the line setting things up. |

 | reply to Insimbi You have to remove the Router from the connection to have access to the ZyXel modem (in other words, you have to be hooked directly to the ZyXel from your PC to Telnet to it. Routers do not know the route needed for your packets to get to the LAN interface of the ZyXel. |
|
 | reply to Insimbi First off...
ZyXEL 654M - ADSL Modem or ZyXEL 645M - UHP/ADSL Modem
???
Look on the bottom of the unit to identify it....
If its the UHP verision (you got it in the last couple weeks, likely), then you need to access " »172.16.0.254 ". |

 | They still cannot access the ZyXel modem (regardless of it's LAN IP) with a Router in the path. There is no route from the Router LAN to the Router WAN to the ZyXel LAN interface. They could try adding a static route, but that doesn't work with most consumer grade Routers and the proper setup of a static route is not easy for most Router users. |

 | If it is like the Sprint ZyXel with built in PPPoE try the instructions here »/faq/5689 |

The steps for changing the UHP modem to bridge mode should be the same regardless of the UHP modem type. You can find the instructions for doing this here:

| Insimbi,
It might be a little easier if you can keep your questions to one forum or link the two. The EL forum is probably the best place to be.

 | reply to Insimbi Ok, sorry - I'll limit it to this forum. I was told the Earthlink forum would be the best place to find the username/password. I've tried admin/admin; admin/password; admin/1234; and admin/password with no luck. Any ideas guys? |

| First, I don't think the username ever matters. Are you accessing via a web browser? If so, it must be a recent version since the older ones Earthlink supplied has Telnet/FTP/TFTP only - the password in the old Mindspring areas was "mspgzyx" but that probably is way too ancient of info.
EDIT: Ignore my stuff... if you have a UHP version sounds like ELNK_Scott's FAQ link is highly useful. [text was edited by author 2003-05-27 18:18:02] |

 | reply to Insimbi The default setup page at »172.16.0.254/ is blocked and locked. They will not give you the password for that. Sorry. That's where they setup the unit to only allow one IP address using the UHP features.
You have to type the config.html as part of the full address to the unprotected setup page. This is in the FAQ that you are to type "http://172.16.0.254/config.html" minus the quotes. Only pages linked from the config.html page will be accessible. |

There is no password set on the ZyXel 645 UHP modem, for either the main page or the /config page. There is a tab on the main page for you to enter your username and password, but that is for the PPPoE connection. If you're getting a password prompt when going to »172.16.0.254/, are you sure that you have a 645 UHP modem?

Re: Access Zyxel 645 does any one know if this particular modem has a webpage config? or do I have to telnet? |

First it is best, as you have heard to keep related questions in the same thread, but you have already heard that in another thread.
Look on the bottom of your modem for a model number.
If it is 645M, it has only telnet access If it is 645M-UHP it has only web access
If the neither modem nor the box specifically says UHP, then it is not UHP and you will need to use telnet. -- Best of luck
