While I can't speak for Verizon, I know that my SBC DSL connection uses the sprintlink.net backbone. There may be cases where Comcast leases feeders to the backbones from the RBOCs.
In northern NJ Comcast leases from AT&T, which isn't in competition with Comcast. In S. NJ they use Sprint. Personally, I'm thrilled that they use AT&T where I am. I am on the same backbone as the VPN server at work, so I have like 5 hops from my computer to the VPN server.

It would be nice if the speed would be increased soon and if the comcast news server didn't have a download limit

!!!Speed increases!!! i think that this is all a tactic to scare the telco's. If they wanted they could just raise the speeds right now.

Some of us on @home were at 3-5mbps before att came in and capped it at 1.5. I dont feel like im getting special treatment. I had that service like 4 or 5 years ago. When they were saying "Cable Sucks".
