| reply to mbernste Has anyone considered that Comcast will probably raise prices if they bump up the bandwidth? They probably won't go up to the $95 that PRO is currently, but I'd expect at least a $10 or $15 price increase or possibly bundle it together with digital cable or something. |

If Brian Roberts is considering the speed increase in response to Verizon's simultaneous drop in price and increase in speed, I do not think we will see a modification of our current rates. Actually, I think it might even be possible that we might see a price decrease as part of Comcast's competition with Verizon and the other CLECs. -- Cable survey results: »mywebpages.comcast.net/mbernste/···rvey.htm Uncensored Comcast Group »groups.yahoo.com/group/comcast_cable Watch Comcast execs get grilled »mywebpages.comcast.net/mbernste/···ing.html |

Well something tells me he knows as much as we know (in fact perhaps less). Roberts's comments may remain "off the cuff" until someone even in the upper levels repeats something even remotely close to what he said. You know how stingy comcast can be with info -- even to their techs. Of course I have no idea how high up Comcast_HSI is, either

Actually they dont read off scripts.BUT company policy is to not tell customers what future plans are.Plus they are being monitored on every phone call so they dont slip out information because most of them do need a job to pay bills. |

| reply to mbernste Yeah, I'm a T1 rep. I haven't heard anything about speed changes but they really don't give us any information ahead of what you'll find here on BBR. Since you and I both know the way Comcast is then you should know that 9mbit download would be nice but don't get your hopes up. Ohh shi*t wait a minute, let me check my script. What I meant to say was. Comcast appreciates you business and is always looking for new ways to expand our technology and increase the user experience. Once information on our upgrades becomes available then rest assured we will inform you. Thanks again for you business and thanks for calling comcast.

I don't think Comcast would do that. If they implemented metered usage, I think people would realize what a cheaper alternative DSL is at that point (if it remains unmetered). It is also contrary to all of the "gee whiz" stuff that Comcast is going to start touting with broadband in the new portal. -- Cable survey results: »mywebpages.comcast.net/mbernste/···htmWatch Comcast execs get grilled »mywebpages.com |

| it has nothing to do with history.upstream is a precious commodity in a cable plant,*IF* they add more to it they will start monitoring it even more than they do now.which ,whether you believe it or not, they pay very close attention to.just because you havent received a notice from them does not mean they dont monitor,i know for a fact they do and have sent out a lot of letters and shut down quit a few people who monopolize the upstream. |

If the "hogs" move to DSL, the DSL provider will be forced to raise their price or (more likely) implement the same sort of caps.
On the other hand, it's also possible that profitable light users would switch to DSL too, if they have a strong preference for flat rate pricing. |

Not necessarily. If the DSL provider also owns the pipe (as telcos are prone to do), then they wouldn't be under as much financial pressue as the cable companies since they have to lease the backbone (sometimes from the same telcos that they're in competition with). -- Cable survey results: »mywebpages.comcast.net/mbernste/···htmWatch Comcast execs get grilled »mywebpages.com |
