Re: Post Your BEFW11S4 V4 Issues Here

I'm also seeing the same issue when downloading music videos or music, the internet connection drops when windows media player is trying to connect to the stream. I don't see this issue when I remove the router and connect directly to the cable modem. I contacted Linksys via chat and the only thing they suggested is to reduce the mtu size on the router, this didn't work either. So far I have noticed that when downloading music via Real Player I didn't see this issue. For some unknown reason the router doesn't like music videos or music streams. Other types of video such as WMV MPEG work fine.

GT,
I'm also seeing the same issue of losing the router when downloading music videos, I don't seem to have a problem downloading other types of videos. The best suggestion from support was to lower the MTU size to 1400 on the router, this did not fix the issue. I'm curious if you figured out the solution this issue, as you think it may be related to the connection with your ISP or cable modem.

Just out of curiosity, is the link on page six still fixing alot of problems? I want to hear a definate yes before I do anything else.

I've been experiencing almost the exact same problems as anyone else. Almost like magic, a huge stress has been lifted off me because now I know my issue here.

After ONE year I am visiting this thread of BEFW11S4 V4. It is simply unbelievable that the same problems exist with this piece of S*it. I wonder how this is still being sold.

I have the latest firmware, and I have no streaming problems.

I think I might have found a solution however for the disconnecting problem.

I use Azureus (Bittorrent client), and every 3 hours or so, I had to power cycle. Now I use Bitspirit, and I'm online for 14 hours. I've downloaded about 1,5 gigs, and uploaded 105 MB. And hey, I'm still online.

So perhaps something with the ports, or UPnP causes the disconnect problem.

Just wanted to help out, because I've been working on this thing for about 4 monhts. This thread rocks!

On second thought, I didn't had the latest firmare.. I'm on 1.45.1, Jun 19 2003.

Well, this morning the router died again, and after a power cycle, it was all fine again...

Well,

Just got my replacement from Linksys and the same problem persisted. I've firmware 1.52.02 (latest) and it hangs now and then. I also suffer the stream video hanging problem. The new firmware doesn't seem to fix the problem. I have 2 PCs and 1 print server hooked up to this router. It hangs whether or now my 2nd PC is running BT d/l. It hangs even if all PCs are off. Like when I get home from work, the connection isn't working already. Something is causing this to happen. I have the 1st gen of BEFW11S4 and it works better. It hangs once in a long while with heavy traffic, but not as bad. I've to power cycle this version 4 router a # of times each day and d/l stream video will hang for sure (try music video from Yahoo!) Still no solution to this. Very annoying.

Thanks to this thread and all of you who posted, I was finally able to get mine fixed. I spent literally three hours on the phone with linksys, the wouldn't admit the router could be the problem and even said they would have heard this before, when I gave them this site address, everything changed So anyway, we did the MTU, UDmP, Static IP, and DMZ stuff to no success. He had me connect without the router and when he saw I could stream without it, he finally agreed it was the router. So we reflashed 1.50.14 (leaving all of the previously changed setting the way they were) and boom, it all worked!! So if you want to try it, here's the link to there public FTP server:

»ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network/

Download the file:
befw11s4_v4_v1.50.14_code.bin

Good luck! It worked for me I hope it works for all of you!!

BTW - he acted like he wasn't supposed to letme know about this file, he said he had to get the email department to send it to me, I pushed and he finally walked me to the FTP site, weird I thought. Anyway enjoy.

I attached the file, but not sure if that will work.

I am going to try it - I'll let you know if it fixes my problem.

I did NOT have this issue until I called SWBELL to upgrade from my old 1.5 meg download to the 3.0 meg download. I had to switch to PPPOE at that time. Before having the PPPOE enabled on the router I could stream video without any problem plus I was at an earlier version of the firmware at that time TOO.

Router LOCKS TIGHT upon trying any streaming video. Sometimes I'll get the first video (MSNBC video) but, upon the next video - total lock up. Called Linksys tech(no-support) - they had no ideas - other than the default CHANGE MTU!

I am having the same lock up issues... Has anyone else tried the 1.50.14 fix? I have been through the change MTU settings with Linksys as well. This is getting annoying and was wondering if this is the silver bullet that solves the issue? Thanks - J

Just got finised doing the 1.50.14 fix and

IT WORKS YEAH!!!

I need to test it some more to make sure that other issues do not come up but, I just watched a couple of video's streaming via MSNBC and no problem. Last video did stop because it was "NOT AVAILABLE" but, that could be lots of issues. The main thing is the Linsyscrap router did not LOCK UP TIGHT -

Thank you Z28FORME

I am currently running version 1.52.02 which is supposedly newer. Do I need to go to an older firmware version?

Also - when implementing the firmware change, will I have to re-input all the router values or will it remember?

Thanks,

J

I'm in the same boat as Snigma...just mvoed and first installed Yahoo DSL which worked fine. Then purchased this router which randomly stops performing making Internet unavailable. I updated to new firmware 1.52.02, but it didn't resolve the random hang problem. Most of the time the problem is discovered the next morning after powering down the main PC (but not always). However, twice so far this week I observed the Internet access getting slower and slower until it stopped responding altogether.

Seems this problem on this router has been around for years without getting fixed. My attempt to resolve this may be like many others. Drop back ten and punt. Looks like Netgear may be on my desk soon.

Correct me if I am wrong, but THERE IS NO SOLUTION TO THE RANDOM HANG/DISCONNECT from Internet problem for this router. Is there anybody NOT having this problem? IF so, please speak up and help us determine what is different. Thank you.

This is a known issue with the latest firmware, regardless of what Linksys says.

Open WMP,go to Tools,Options and in the network tab uncheck Multicast and UDP.

Real Player presents the same problems and can be edited through Preferences,Network Transport.Put a check in Manually configure connection settings, then uncheck the 2.

Optionally, downgrade the firmware to earlier version.

JOHNNYDG

@east.verizon.ne

Downgrading to Firmware Version: 1.50.14 did the trick! Thanks to all on the board. I am currently streaming CNN and MSNBC using two different machines. Been running about an hour and so far no hang-ups!

Thanks to all on here!
