Sounds good, now if my AV will just get off their hinies and include unpackers .. kudos to ESET, they still be leadin the pack in many ways.

Re: NOD32 Version 2 final release

Thanks for the post, Marti. I've been waiting for this.

What's your thoughts on it? I didn't try the beta version, so I'm curious as to what your impressions are. How is it on system resources?

JPP,

It seems like I have been running the beta "forever." As I recall, resources are the same for V2 and V1. If you are still running Win98 (like me), set the GUI to turn off Windows Graphic mode (NOD32 Control Center >> NOD32 System Tools >> NOD32 System Setup >> Setup)

I am pleased with the new interface, one control center for all areas.

Any noticeable slowdown of a full-system manual scan with "archives & unpackers" enabled? I would think doing unpackers and scanning inside archives would slow it down .. just curious .. {See POOoOoOPs post: »Re: NOD32 Version 2 final release }

NOD32 Version 2 is very nice. Works great on my
Win9x/XP machines.

Also this on Bugbear.B.
»antivirus.about.com/library/week···603a.htm
"Bugbear.B was not initially detectable by antivirus software with the exception of Nod32, which heuristically detected it without needing updates."

Can anyone please comment how it does with unpackers and archives? Does it get anywhere near KAV/McAfee?

It's not the first time NOD32's heuristics detected a virus before the definations were out...

Hello, Randy..

Nod32 had that option with Version 1... I can't enclose a screenshot because I am using the computer that has McAFee on it.. Just because it had that option, didn't mean it did a good job... I wonder if anyone else found out yet..LOL...

I am running the new version on the other computer.. To it's credit, it does good, the only thing, I can't seem to get it to find eicar zipped twice.. even if I right click on it....

Re: NOD32 Version 2 final release

Unpackers seem very weak, but at least it's a start, NOD isn't even close to McAfee or KAV's unpackers, but I am glad they are at least attempting. Good job NOD Team.

I agree about the unpackers but it seems to me that NOD32 has a more effective heuristics scanning then McAfee but I could be wrong? I haven't used McAfee in a long while but understand it has become a lot better then it had been for a while.

Hi, no McAfee heuristics scanning is also superior to NOD's I was trying to prove this when, I was banned from their forum. NOD missed a bunch of viruses, while McAfee detect everyone, the ones McAfee didn't have a signature file for heuristics scanning detected it.

The ones NOD didn't have signatures files for, NOD's heuristics scanning missed them, Now this version heuristics scanning seems better than the older one, I am scanning now, and heuristics scanning is now detecting some of the viruses the old version was unable to do.

Here is a pic, showing Nod's improved heuristics scanning, still falls behind McAfee's but this version of NOD is a move in the right direction.

Scan time just over 40 minutes, very nice, compared to 5 minutes, (older version) much improved product.

Now let's get NAV with the program, unpackers, is the future of AV's, come on down NAV, it's your turn at bat.

I found the answer to my question:

--------------------------------------

Download the installation package of NOD32 version 2 from »www.nod32.com/download/download.htm (the appropriate version for your operating system).
Note: The administrator version is intended for creating a mirror updates for more computers in the network and requires a special username/ password. If NOD32 should run just on one computer and no mirror is needed, please download the standard version.
