Signing off from Comcast

Hi,

I called Comcast to terminate my cable TV & high speed internet service. I live in Montgomery County, Maryland. I had the service for less than 1 month (service started Memorial weekend). Although the service was reasonable good, my initial bill arrived today and it was nowhere near what they initially quoted me. The internet speed was quite good, my highest recorded speed was on DSLreports at 1.6 million bits/second. I had two outages during this short time.

They tried to keep me on by offering me deals, none of which were as good as the initial offering. The so-called retension office made the offers. So, I'm signing off and back to DSL. DSL is far from perfect, but they never misrepresented my cost.

what did they do to your bill? The normal cost per month is somewhere around 42.99-49.99 a month. Did they overcharge you on installation or something?

I had a contrary experience. My phone bill with Qwest DSL was 20% higher than what they quoted me due to various and sundry "approved charges".

That's not to say that I don't have to (now) pay a franchise fee, but it's only ~2% of my bill. (I say now, because I moved to Aurora from unincorporated Arapahoe county.)

But I do understand that some other phone companies are better values than Qwest (okay most other phone companies), and not everyone has as stable a connection with Comcast as I have.

Good luck with the DSL.

My comcrap bill is currently $61 a month. Comcrap charges me more for not subscribing to their cable TV service

I love when people call Comcast, Comcrap. Eh well, my service has always been near excellent. My laptop is the only thing that is getting worse. Service has been excellent for six months now.

Switch to DSL then. Then you can complain your telephone company is charging you for having their telephone service

Lol, Comcast started charing me the extra fees because my family name didn't come up as a basic cable subscriber. Apparently where we live we pay a 9.99 a month for basic cable through a community account.. Go figure, Comcast tried to make mo money... but I stopped them dead in their tracks! I don't understand what changed, since TCI brought Cable modem Service in Salt Lake I have had Cable TV =/. You would have thought through all the buy outs their records would stay somewhat the same =D.

Haha, yeah. I love how people complain about the non-subscriber fee ("They don't have that with DSL!"). Gee... I was under the impression you had to pay about $10 - $20 more a month just to have the damn telephone line. But that's okay - it's nothing like what Comcast is doing (sarcasm). Give me a break.

i dunno my uncle called to cancel and told them he had verizon dsl and was cancelling and comcast said "we'll give you 3 months at 19.95" he said it wasn't good enough and the lady said "how about 6 months at 19.95." He is still deciding what to do.

Use 'em for 6 months and then ditch 'em like a ragged out brothel ho. lol
And to the earlier implication that Comcast/ATTBI esp. offer retention benefits to those customers they are truly in fear of losing out to DSL.That's why they so urgently want you to type in your phone number when you call up CS and seconds later ask you for it again verbally. They run a check on your phone line to see if you're qualified to subscribe to DSL and if you do in fact qualify they up the retention ante.If you don't they, then they hold the wildcard and have leverage on you, knowing you'll probably not cancel or be back soon because you've gotten used to broadband and dial up isn't cutting it anymore now.
Cable isn't as worried about losing customers to dial up,rather to DSL.And if you're not qualified for DSL then you're just a pawn in this chess game and will probably sooner or later get caught in their web anyways when they roll out 2-way cable in your neck of the woods.
Chances are greater for cable than for DSL for folks in the boondocks due to distance from CO restrictions for DSL.

JT you give them *far* too much credit - the retention office probably barely comprehends DSL let along knowing if you are within reach of a wired CO. - Hell 1/2 the time the phone company itself doesn't know.

I think the key with people who complain about the non-subscriber fee from Comcast is they do not want Cable TV Service. Where as many people who get DSL do want phone service. - iolaire

lol you are some speculators. Comcast does not have these evil powers so to speak. They however to offere retention to anyone that wishes to disconnect services, HSI or cable. This is to create or make up for customer service. Most customer take this as a gift and keep the services there-after. Comcast is not worried about who they lose customers to, they are just worried about any lost of subscribers. Customer service doesn't care either way. They don't get in trouble if you disconnect and move out of area. They just want to make more sales with the next customer. Damn evil leprichauns.

That's absolutely false special_ed See Profile. I recently cancelled HSI.

NO attempt at retention - not even a feeble one, was made.

Sorry for not being more clear, but offices with a retention department offer this to all customers. Not all area's have these departments. Also that does not mean the rep ignored the fact they were supposed to transfer you and just disconnected your services to get you off of the phone.
