| reply to Frosties just a word of caution that SP4 can cause a slow login issue on Citrix servers. I don't know all the specifics, but I know this was an issue at work.
Here is some info on it: »support.citrix.com/forums/thread···tstart=0 [text was edited by author 2003-07-31 08:18:51] |

| reply to DreamNshadow What version of Java did you download and used? The latest? I for one have windows 2000 and java 1.4.1_03 have not had any problems. No problems with BBR's Java utilities but I haven't run more complex applets. What was giving you problems? -- I would rather be chased by wolfs than loved by you.

| reply to Kirby Smith I've had SP4 running about a week now, and aside from losing the pretty little icons for some sites in my favorites (such as the one for this site) I've not noticed anything untoward. I'll be patching servers with SP4 next week, and I'm not anticipating any troubles there, from what I'm seeing.
I've also installed two new desktops and immediately plugged SP4 in. No troubles there...
Anyway, the updated desktop is as follows:
AMD Athlon XP 2000+ 512MB PC2100 DDR (2700? Whatever is the 266 MHZ) Shuttle AK32A mobo with the original BIOS errr... using Kirby's post as a guide here.. whew! gave lots of info!! I'm also on Verizon with a westell bridge.. have a belkin router Vid is an MSI Geforce ti4200 Have a Plextor CD-WR, and I use Nero.. no troubles there.. Using an Iomega Jazz drive on a SCSI card (no drivers - I don't boot off it).. no troubles. I use AVG 6 Free and ZAF; no trouble with either (ZAF had a lot of 'repeat programs' on Win components, of course)
That's about it here! [text was edited by author 2003-07-13 19:39:56] |

| reply to Skipdawg FWIW, I installed SP4 yesterday from the full distribution I downoaded on Friday (couldn't wait for the CD). First I saved key things like Kerio PF configuration, printed Snagit photos of the status of all services, disconnected from the internet, disabled McAfee, Kerio, Ati Multimedia Center, Lexmark printer stuff, made sure there was no Diskeeper automatic stuff running, and shut down whatever else I could think of that was running.
Installation was uneventful, and so far I haven't found any breakage of anything. There was no loss of the Kerio config. Services were in the same state as before, except MS provided a new one for wireless LANs. My configuration is relatively mundane:
Abit KT-7 RAID w/ Highpoint Controller disabled; Bios UL102; Via 4.40v(a)p3 800 Mhz Athlon TB @ 800; CPUfx Core cooler; Addtronics ET7896A case w/ Enermax 2x400W PS 2 x 128 MB Xerox PC133 SDRAM (CAS2/100 MHz; CAS3/133MHz) @ 133 MHz PS2 Mouse and Keyboard; Mitsumi Floppy; SB Live! Value; Orange Micro USB 2.0 PCI Via IDE1 Master: Accusys 7500 RAID 1 w/ 2 WD Caviar 40GB; Slave: Onstream DI30 FAST tape drive Via IDE2 Master: Plextor Plexwriter 12/10/32A; Slave: Toshiba SD-M1612 DVD-ROM Startech PCI2IDE100 IDE1 Master: Iomega Zip 100; AGP: Ati AIW Radeon, 6094 driver, MMC 7.7.0.1, DVD 7.6 Verizon.net > Westel ADSL > Nexland ISB SOHO router > D-Link DFE-530TX+ > Kerio PF 2.1.4

| reply to Skipdawg OK, I came here to read about the 329170 problems. I think that is clear to me now. But WTF is going on with MS Java again? Is everybody who's doing clean installs losing MS Java? Or just some folks? What's up with that?

Okay- just wondering. No doubt we'll be seeing a 'few' patches over the next few months or so (LOL)- guess I can wait for the fun. Thanks again- reiko2 |

| reply to reaver221 reaver221- noticed on that 'how to slipstream' page (thanks for that link btw), another link for SP5 fixes- 27 of them? Are these the first 'pre SP5' hot-fixes- as Microsoft update site doesn't have them listed- but I expect a lot to appear eventually. Don't want to go blindly installing patches -wouldn't be the first time, come to think of it Thanks for any info- reiko2 |

| reply to rmbags said by rmbags : Did a fresh (clean) install from a slipstreamed cd on a test box. I then noticed that there was no Micro$oft Java VM installed. Anybody else notice this.
P.S. Solved but however due to site policies I can't post any links to download the installer for MS Java VM.
