I personally just like keeping up to date with these patches especially if it's an OS Service Pack.
Arden625, how is everything going with SP4? No problems? I have'nt installed SP4 yet. How is everything when playing games? -- "Up here Jerry, I'm already gone" |

My Live update, Nav 02, said there is update for program but failed on a whole bunch of files on Norton Antivirus directory. I'm doubted if there is update for NAv 02 (current date I have is about Sep 02).
Before SP4, Turn on my DSL connection after windows (computer) on was no issue. Now turn on DSL connection a must be before computer is on, otherwise, ZA version 2.6 does not recognize my IP and my ISP's DNS and posted as attempted for FWROUTE. Could still accessible to internet though. |

I don't think SP4 has any relations to gaming, if it does, I didn't notice anything different. Other than that, I like SP4 so far. I've installed it in the three PCs here in my house and everything's great. It's weird...but after every installation, that PC seemed to "run faster." Maybe it's just me, but either way...I'm not here to complain. -- [Domain 6] [Urban Terror] [Clan {TRIAD}] |

Well I had the same problem with my Internet(DSL going to dial-up speeds) and after reading the post about removing and reinstalling the Network Components I got mine working properly too.
Everything else seems fine with SP4. Still have my SP2 imaged on CD if I need it. -- "But if I say, "I will not mention him or speak any more in his name," his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot." (Jer 20:9 NIV) |

| reply to Skipdawg SP4 has been running on my win2k pro machine ok. But just noticed files in my Recycle bin are not showing up when I delete them. Anyone else experiencing this? I was having a printer problem. I think it fixed that.
It's working now for some reason. [text was edited by author 2003-06-28 21:01:54]

| reply to MSeng I just read the security forum thread. Good find, MSeng! The beta testers for SP4, in general, would have *all* the services enabled at their MS defaults during testing. If any services have been altered from the out-of-the-box defaults then all bets are off on how SP4 will behave.
If a person has manually tweaked their services (ie BlackViper page), they should first set all the services back to the MS defaults before installing SP4. Then go back and mess with them after the install. Save some grief right up front. |

EmilioG Whats This? Premium join:2000-09-19 New York, NY | reply to Skipdawg I agree. i always delete partition & format then slipstream when a new SP comes out. I'm just waiting for my SP4 CD from Microsoft. I've installed SP4 to my current install with no problems so far. |

Slipstreaming is the process of Integrating a Service Pack into the install so that the Operation System and the Service Pack are installed at the same time. Microsoft does this with their operating systems and other software such as Office. With the know-how and right materials the end-user can do this also. | Ooooohhh, that's pretty cool! Although I've been just updating to newer SP's as they come, I haven't had a problem whatsoever (even with my tweaked Services).
So how do I go about "slipstreaming?" Copy Win2K CD, extract SP4 and overwrite same files in that CD and burn it? I don't want to hijack the thread and go off the topic so a PM would be nice. -- [Domain 6] [Urban Terror] [Clan {TRIAD}] |

Actually, a public post would be nice, too... even if not in this thread. hehe... I've always just installed from CD and immediately updated from there... I'd definitely be interested in knowing if there are any 'tricks' I'd need to know to 'slipstream' a service pack onto a CD for new installs. |

| reply to reiko2 said by reiko2 : While I see programs like IE Spell and some firewall settings were affected- I fear you are right re: Live update. Noticed when went to run Speed Disk- got a message, 'SP4 has not been tested using Speed Disk- not recommended'- or something close to that- so appears NSW 2003 just wasn't ready for SP4. Thanks for that link anyway- reiko2
Yep, I see the same Speed Disk warning. However my NSW 2003 LiveUpdate seems to be working just fine ( Auto updated on the 28th) Ironically I have just recently started using Speed Disk again as mine was killed by a Norton update some years ago, and I couldn't be bothered re-installing NSW to fix it. I guess I will go back to the Win2K Defrag program for a while, as it works fine for me. I expect that the SD warning is just a caution ?? er, tempted... but I won't be testing it out for fun. -- Dawn,n,The time when men of reason go to bed. (Ambrose Bierce.) |

| reply to Skipdawg Just saw some of the posts on SpeedDisk- Symantec sent me an e-mail- 2 in one day and on a Saturday!- saying they always update components thru Live Update when a new service pack comes out. If I still saw the warning- and I did- to go ahead and ignore it. I Drive Imaged everything and then tried it- seemed to work as well as usual. I haven't tried every program yet- so just letting you know. Hope that helps- thanks again for all the help today- reiko2 |

| reply to Skipdawg Thanks for the update, Reiko2: I noticed that there was a small Symantec 'Common Client' Liveupdate on Thursday (26th) and that might have been it (??). I thought I would wait a week or two to see if it was actually a problem. -- Dawn,n,The time when men of reason go to bed. (Ambrose Bierce.) [text was edited by author 2003-06-29 05:15:24] |

| Did a fresh (clean) install from a slipstreamed cd on a test box. I then noticed that there was no Micro$oft Java VM installed. Anybody else notice this.
P.S. Solved but however due to site policies I can't post any links to download the installer for MS Java VM.
