| Transition Wizard - Changes it wants to make
Just tried my system, transition wizard started right up. Beware, it wants to change: 1 - Outlook Express settings 2 - reset home page to comcast.net 3 - remove ATTBI Software 4 - INSTALL Comcast Support software.
I'm behind a firewall, maybe this affected it, but after 3 boots, the wizard still hasn't connected or changed any settings - thank God.
I don't want most of these changes, esp. item 2&4 in my list above. Does anyone know where /how to remove this unwanted 'wizard' before it does anything ?

@attbi.com | FYI:
the following is for WXP:
1) delete the comcast folder that is created under program files
2) use regcleaner and delete AT&T\SrvCon
that should do it... |

Thanks. Somehow I guess I suspected they may try to do a little more than stated; that's why I only put it on one system.
Related - sort of -- the WWW.Comcast.net and connect.comcast.net sites keep wanting to load flash for me. Again, no thanks, always suspect of sites wanting to do that, plus I have a philosophical problem with Macromedia's Flash -- for me it's in the realm of the Realnetwork crap every one want to install for me...
As I play and find things, I'll post them on..
Again OK, thanks!

| reply to az kiwi Ok, well I followed your directions to remove the comcast software, however, now I have a small problem. More annoyance than a problem.
In the Internet Explorer Title Bar there is the
"broadband.. -Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by Comcast High-Speed Internet"
Anybody know of an easy way to get rid of the bolded portion? |

Rundll32 IedkCS32.dll,Clear
[click OK]
This works on Win98SE to remove all browser customizations, not sure if it works on XP or not. |

Not true. They only "support" OE as far as giving you the settings etc, but Outlook works just fine. I use both Outlook 98 and OE6. -- Always yield to temptation, because it may not pass your way again. |

@141.149.x.x | Yes, ANY e-mail client will work, as long as it's POP3. But my question is whether the transition wizard changed his Outlook settings, or if he's using OE. I was told the wizard only worked on OE. |

You're probably right about that since OE is the only "officially supported" email client. I can't imagine a wizard that could change the multitude of POP-3 Clients. -- Always yield to temptation, because it may not pass your way again. |

| reply to az kiwi Unfortunately I ran comcasttransition.exe. Now my start page in IE 6 is »www.comcast.com/ and I'd really like it to be something else but the options are grayed out...
I uninstalled the Comcast software, I've uninstalled and re-installed IE 6. I ran Rundll32 IedkCS32.dll,Clear and that didn't help, i've searched the registry and for text within all files that has »www.comcast.com/ or comcast.com or comcast.
BTW, Win2k system, SP4 and all the patches that seemed prudent...any ideas as to how to get my own personal start page back? -- »www.buteo.com |

| Can you revert to an earlier system registry, like the day before you installed the Comcast transition software?
On Win98SE there's a facility to revert to an earlier system registry (regedit), altho you have to drop to DOS to do this and I don't think that's possible on 2K. If there isn't a registry backup/restore on Win2k (I'm not boned up on that OS) then kick yerself in the butt for not backing up the registry before doing something like this!
There should be a registry setting you could change/delete to fix the problem though, I just don't know what it is. Some Google searching, perhaps?

| reply to ggothard Comcast really screwed up this time!
I'm major pissed off at Comcast. To screw with the start page like this is totally out of line. My controls for changing the start page were grayed out as well. I ended up downloading a free program at »www.spywareinfo.com/downloads/spg/ called Start Page Guard. I was able to change my home page but the controls are still grayed out but it is a good temporary fix.
When I did a search for Comcast in my registry I was not happy to find the at what length it went to hack the hell out of my system. Comcast has really made a mistake by doing this. And get this, their phone reps/techs/flunkies are acting like this is un-heard of! BS, they were probably told in a big meeting to deny any knowledge of this fiasco. |

| reply to az kiwi Re: Transition Wizard - Changes it wants to make
As a controlled experiment, I ran the transition wizard on my WinXP laptop. When I rebooted on the 30th, I let their wizard access the network (I have ZoneAlarm). I also allowed their troubleshooting software to load.
The only changes it made to my system was the home page change. I use Outlook and I had to change that manually. I had no problem changing my home page back via the IE tools/internet options toolbar selection.
I also found on their webpage the instructions for deleting the wizard (basically delete its folder), so I did that. I have watched to see if any extra apps are running and/or trying to access the internet, and I haven't seen any thing as yet.
I manually made the email changes to my other PCs and have had no problems....yet.
I did notice that although I could get to www.comcast.com quickly, www.comcast.net loaded very slowly. I am assuming (hoping) that was due to an unusual traffic load from the transition. |

Try running Regedit, and navigating to: HKEY_CURRENT_USERS\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
There should be a "String Value" named "Start Page". Double click on it and enter the URL for the site that you want to be your home page. |

Is there a similar command for Outlook Express? Since the transition the title bar in OE has the "provided by Comcast High-Speed Internet". I would like to get rid of that. -- Randy (StatsMan) Hands »www.statsman.org |

| Ok.
Note: Under Windows NT, 2000 and XP, you must be a member of the local Administrators group to complete this task.
Step 1: Start the Registry editor: Start > Run > regedit > Enter. Step 2: Click Edit > Find... Step 3: Enter "Comcast" (without quotes) and click Find Next. Step 4: If you see anything that ends in "provided by Comcast blah blah blah", double-click that entry and change it. Step 5: Keep pressing F3 and changing entries.
Note: If you are not sure what something is, don't change it. Note: Only change items that contain "provided by". Other items are parts of the transition wizard that are left behind, but can sometimes screw up your system if you delete them. |
