More spam thru new comcast.net Email...

I'm definitely getting more spam thru my new xxx@comcast.net than I was through xxx@attbi.com (I only give my ISP email address out to friends and family, and "trusted" businesses when I buy on the Web).

Anyone else noticed this? I figure Comcast probably just gets targeted by spammers more or something... or else they changed/disabled spam filters (?). Something I need to do?

I have never received any spam at my @attbi.com addy, but I never use it for anything but emails from attbi/comcast.

lets see, me@home.com, me@attbi.com, & now me@comcast.net all in less than 2 years. No way im using their email addy for anything.

time will tell if I start getting spam from now on.

I have gotten very little spam at my comcast email address. In fact my wife is always signing up for crap on the internet, so comcast must be doing a pretty good job at keeping the spam down.

I just updated to the new Comcast.net also. I had 12 messages waiting there for me that were all spam, and after about 4 hours now I have received 4 more spam e-mails... Gee whizzz??

Spam-o-rama

Last week, I started getting 1 spam per day on my attbi account. I am now getting even more spam on my comcast account.

Why am I not happy? Because I have not used this email address for anything since it changed from MediaOne.

I used to get nothing on this address except for service announcements from ATT, which was once every 6 months.

Now, it seems that the spam is accelerating with the Comcast.

Do you have a rather common name @comcast.net? I think a lot of spammers use keyword lists to put before the @ sign, and just send the stuff out randomly in hopes it won't bounce back.

My guess is that Comcast has been around longer than attbi (I think so anyway), so spammers have been targeting it longer. Unless Comcast is selling Email lists to someone, but I would tend to doubt that.

Anyway, it doesn't look like it's gonna be a severe problem (like my Yahoo account, which is a joke... I can hardly find the real Emails under the atrocious piles of spam, I probably get several hundred per day).

Eventually some laws are gonna have to be passed, I remember reading that Email itself could actually be rendered useless as an Internet service if volumes of spam keep increasing.

@attbi.com
Not a common name. If it was marysmith or redsox I wouldn't be as surprised.

Both comcast.net and attbi.com went live in 4Q01 (although most of the comcast@home subscribers transitioned to comcast.net in 1Q02), however, attbi.com has always had more users (well, at least prior to yesterday )

Re: More spam thru new comcast.net Email...

I'm getting more spam too, and less of it is getting filtered to the screened mail folder. I'm thinking attbi had a better spam filter than comcast.

This morning, I had 3 spams in the inbox, and when I checked the screened mail, there were two more. Plus I had a couple yesterday that weren't screened. attbi tended to screen maybe 75-80% of them. Comcast isn't faring as well in that department. Worst of all, I think the spam is coming into the attbi address, which they so nicely forwarded for us without any option to turn off or redirect to another address.

From the Comcast homepage, just go to Service Center / Account Management / email settings. You can then redirect the email to an e-mail account of your choice.

No spam for me so far. Keep my fingers crossed.

That causes all email to be forwarded. Not just email coming into the attbi address.
