 E-mail transition woes

I successfully transitioned my e-mail from attbi.com to comcast.net this morning. This afternoon, I received an e-mail from another Comcast customer saying that they were given MY e-mail username by a comcast agent who FAILED TO VERIFY that the username had not already been allocated. They simply assigned my username to another customer! Fortunately, this other Comcast customer eventually noticed that something was amiss and promptly contacted Comcast about the mixup whereupon he was given a different username. However, Comcast made no effort whatsoever to contact me despite the fact that Comcast agents had reset all my passwords! It was only through this other customer that I found out what had happend.

Comcast needs to get their act together!

I called ConCrap a few days to verify that I would have my same user name that I've had with every ISP since I started using the internet since I wasn't going to be using their transition spyware and was assured that it was reserved for me.

In today's last of the 10 million Transition spyware SPAMs they again stated that I would keep my same user name, but when I reconfigured OE for ConCrap tonight it wouldn't authenticate.

I lowered myself to go to the Comcast Homepage. After I signed in with my main identity user name I was informed that ConCrap had changed my user name to my 1st inital and FULL last name. Wow thanks ConCrap, that's only about my VERY last choice for a user name.

Did they bother to notify me--Uh NO! I wonder if some else is now getting my e-mail also.

That's the understatement of the century!

Lets see now.. Comcast was in business with thousands of customers in an established email setting. They migrate thousands more ATTBI customers to the network and all that happens is a few email problems. OMG. Did we all forget the 7 day outages that lasted during the TCI/ATTBI @Home migration/outage??? You should be thankful Comcast has this much together. Lets not forget how bad it was when @Home died. At least there is a chance you might actually get some email soon. With the @Home conversion........

I'm glad i got rid of commiecast myself. I had called comcast a month ago because I had received an email stating that my new user name would me my first name middle initial.lastname.I was like what the hell? I called and complained telling the lady politely that I was the one with my old username on commiecast because I had called and setup all my attbi accounts as comcast accounts back in february she said ok she would check and she came back and said indeed i was way ahead of the ball and not to worry that i would indeed keep my old email addy. Well since I paid for commiecast internet through the 7th i decided to check and see how my fortunes would have been. Well i was lied to. They took my username(ok since i won't be using comcast it was MikeDz3@comcast.net) and turned it into Michaele.Dziatkowicz@comcast.net . Like I said I have verizon now and at this time next week my login won't work so i don't care how much spam i get on that account. It just really ticks me off that I was promised time and again that i wouldn't have to change emails names and now i would have had to. Thank God I switched to verizon rather than put up with that mess.

You know .. I had the same problem, but just changed my email addy ... now I get spam on that new email address ... and it's only day two ... not to mention the fact that the overall service has degraded... ugh

I don't doubt that this was handled better than the @home transition, although in @home and AT&T's defence, their situation was more complicated. Thankful? I think not. If this is considered acceptable customer service, then their standards are far too low. When was the last time you heard of a customer's telephone number being given to another customer, and then when the error is discovered, the telephone company fails to reconnect the first customer's telephone and/or notify them of the problem?

It's not so much that a customer rep forgot to verify that my username was in use before assigning it to someone else. People make mistakes. I understand that. What is annoying is that after the error was reported to them, they didn't bother to set my passwords and other information back to what I had before and if that was not possible, at least take 2 minutes to call me and let me know what happened. Instead I had to learn about the problem through one of their other customers, who were, fortunately for me, nice, honest people.

Reading all of this makes me even more happy that I have my own domain and have my mail hosted elsewhere.

Of course thinking about it, I guess I need to try to get into the comcast account to clean it up. Haven't looked at it in ages...

Email use is as bad as it will get with all the ATT users playing in email right now. In a few days things will slow down and the servers will better handle the load. I'm sure they planned on x amount of equipment to support the x amount of new traffic the ATT users are causing but that is for normal everyday operation. With all of us hitting the servers at once I'm sure we are going well above the planned amount traffic. I'm amazed the servers are holding up at all. With 0 down time the transition went well but they also had many months to plan it all so it better be smooth.
