| need affordable lawyer to handle traffic ticket
Looking for suggestions... Cop in Richardson gave me a ticket for running a red light--the light changed while I was in mid-turn. Hoping to do deferred adjudication, have been quoted around $150 in court fees by the prepaid law service I subscribe to. Anybody know for sure if somebody else can do this for me cheaper? Please let me know... I don't have a lot of time to call around, and so far my Googling attempts have not returned much.
TIA |

Can't you just ask the judge for deferred adjudication? I don't think you have to have a lawyer. They just check your record to see if you've had deferred adjudication within the past year. If you haven't, then you're eligible. -- Need help with your avatar? Just ask! Also check out the Avatar/Graphics Help Forum for some great ideas! |

| reply to DFWDraco76 You oughtta check out Prepaid Legal. I know some people who have this "service", heard lots of good things.
Instead of paying an a**-ton of legal fees for on case, you pay a monthly charge and get legal help any time you need it. I think there are participating lawyers in each state. I have never tried it out (never really had a need for it). But it sounds like a good deal for the money...it's worth a shot. |

Good luck... under Texas law, it's illegal to enter the intersection if the light is yellow unless you're moving so fast it's not safe to stop.

| reply to DFWDraco76 For Dallas county, I've used Randall Scott, for years.
Scott, Randall - Randall Scott Law Office 2321 S Belt Line Rd # 100 Grand Prairie, TX (972) 264-4000
However, even though you only pay about $45 up front, to initiate the process, the total cost will be around $150. That's what I've experienced, anyway. Granted, costs may have changed - for better or worse. So, you may (or may not) be better off with your prepaid legal service handling the case.
Would be best to give Scott's office a call and find out.
Good luck!
--edit--
As someone else has mentioned, before you use an attorney, contact the judge, seeing if he/she will extend deferred adjudication. I've found it difficult in Dallas county, but in Tarrant no problem.
That law cited above is promising, too.
