| Packet8 Voicemail I found out that you can dial 012-0555 to get to your voicemail box from your Packet8 phone. Could someone else help me with building a number listing for everything Packet8 related, so we can have them all in one place?

Yes, I think they are using a low quality codec to save the messages on the server to save space. Oh, and I talked with tech support two days ago......they told me allot of new features are going to be added in August.....call waiting being one of them he couldn't tell me more.....I guess it's all hush hush for now.

 | I believe it is the normal g.723 that is used, and I find it quite satisfactory.

 | reply to PhatDaddy Is it just me, or does P8 have a problem in lighting up the Message indicator in a timely fashion or at all? |
|
 | I have observed this problem as well. I sent an email to P8 tech support, so I'll let you know what they say. I have noticed that cycling the power on the DTA-310 makes the message indicator work again...for a while. |
|
 | reply to PhatDaddy Confirmed. I never would have thought to do that, since I guess I was assuming that the problem wasn't local. Until it's resolved though, voicemail is useless, and I might as well just hook my machine back up. I hope the round of upgrades they're supposed to be making next month fix some of these oddball problems. Fast busy's are another, though I haven't been getting those of very late. |

I called today & they confirmed that other customers also have been reporting this problem. I think it must have something to do with whatever's recording the message. Even a low quality GSM codec sounds better than this, like the one k7.net uses--at least it's not choppy like this. |
|
 | reply to PhatDaddy So I wonder what the prognosis is? I haven't heard back on an email to them. |
|
 | reply to PhatDaddy Personally, from the testing I have done I find the voice mail fidelity with packet8 the same as using vonage: adequate.

 | reply to PhatDaddy I was speaking to the no-light problem, not the quality, which I find fine. To the light issue, I got a response from them indicating they're aware of the problem and aim to fix it in the next software release coming very soon. In the meantime, reboot it once or twice a day. |
|
 | I get the light without any problem when there is a message waiting.

 | reply to PhatDaddy And I don't have the choppy voice problem. Such is the nature of the bleeding-edge. |

 | the Vonage Cisco ATA does not have a light for voicemail, so you wouldn't have seen a light anyway. |
|
chex5 join:2000-05-24 NorthEnd BOS | No, I am talking about the message light that is on some full-function phones. I have a base-unit BellSouth phone, with a green VM message light, and it works on Packet8 when I get a message, it didnt on Vonage.

 | I have a panasonic cordless phone connected to vonage and it lights up when I have had a call which I missed. This doesn't tell me if the caller left a message, only that he tried to reach me. If he has left a message I see it in my email immediately.

 | reply to PhatDaddy Does anyone know if its possible to access P8 voicemail using a codec other then the default G723 30ms? I have tested all of them and feel that the G711U 10ms codec works the best for me (little loss of quality and very little delay). However, I get a 'fast busy' signal when trying to access my voicemail. Any thoughts? What codecs do most P8 people out there use? Are there any firmware upgrades to my DTA that I might be missing? (currently using version 1.0) |

chex5 join:2000-05-24 NorthEnd BOS | reply to ejrobinson Uh, OK. My BellSouth phone doesn't work like that. If they leave a message, the green message light flashes. Missed call, no. I have another red right that flashes every time I receive a call, and have to scroll thru the ID info to get it to turn off.
I assume you are with Vonage if you have the email VM notifcation, correct? Packet8 doesnt have it (yet) .

 | Yes, I have vonage, but I also have packet8. The latter's light announcing voice mail lights as it should.
