[Poll]: What AV software Do you use?

Well, I know there was one a while ago (err, almost 2 years ago!), but some people (ahem, me:)) constantly change their AV software, plus (no offense) WCB's poll doesn't include many popular ones today. So, here's the new-and-improved poll, with all the modern AV software (some are taken from WCB's poll, while others came from my memory and virus.gr)

Poll
What AV program do you use?

AntiVir

AVG

KAV

AVX

Dr. Solomon

F-Secure

E-Trust (InoculateIT/Vet)

McAfee

NAV

Panda

PC-Cillin

NOD32

Avast

Dr. Web

F-Prot

AVK

RAV

Sophos

Command AV

BitDefender

Norman Virus Control

Other (gasp!!)

E-Trust (InoculateIT/Vet)
What you have listed there is the Corporate/Commerical version, I believe, as the InoculateIT series for Personal Edition is no longer offered nor supported. That corporate version using two scan engines works differently from the Personal Version most of us here use which is
ETrust EZ AV

I cast my vote for Norton which I use on three home puters, but the others provide good protection too: McAfee, Trend PCC, eTrust EZ, NOD32, Panda, Sophos, KAV, F-Secure, Dr. Web, etc. The most important thing is: choose the AV that plays well on your box {is compatible with your hardware and installed software} and .. keep it religiously up-to-date in its signatures or database {some call it "pattern file"}. I guess if I had not selected Norton, I would have voted for KAV. Assuming your system can stand KAV's demands: KAV is probably overall King if the malware testbed is expanded beyond ITW into Zoo, Trojans, packed malware, and related malicious code. Next comes McAfee with almost as strong unpackers; etc.

Although I use McAfee, I voted KAV.. I've been using my nephew's computer for the past 3 days, I have a list of questions, and when I get them answered it looks like I'll be buying it for a 20% discount LOL...
I'm really impressed with it.. In many instances their are no real differences between KAV and McAfee...However, their are many features of KAV I am really liking here.... LOL

KAV Personal 4.5 as my primary.
I have tried quite a few av programs recently and KAV is the antivirus program that I like the best!

I also recently installed extendia AVK(not the Pro version).
I got into the habit of having a backup when I had GAV.LOL
Extendia AVK is cheap and updates daily with a very good scanner.
So it's my backup scanner.
That's not a neccessity,just a habit I have.LOL.

As far as an AV I voted for NOD32. Fast, low resource usage and great AV detection.

KAV Personal, and it appears with each version 4.x to 4.5 resource usage becomes more and more manageable. Looking forward to version 5.0, which is touted as even less demanding on system resources. Oh, and you gotta love the pig sound for an audible virus alert!:)

You forgot an option: "None! I am a dangerous user." I think this would be true for UNIX/Linux users.

Wow. Aren't you the guy who works for Symantec? I would have thought you would be using NAV or at least some other AV.

I said Linux/UNIX workstations, not Windows and MacOS X. I do use firewalls on those machines though.

And yes, I do use a virus scanner on Windows machines, but I scan them manually not in memory. I don't use Outlook products. I use Mozilla as my primary Web browser. I also have SpyBot and Ad-aware (not in memory). But remember, I use Linux more than Windows at home.

Basically, I am careful what I download and run.

Someone please add one to the AVG post...

I use two, and added NAV but then found I couldn't add AVG on the vote... For my W98 computer!

So add one to AVG

lots of us run two AVs.

the poll, while good and certainly appreciated, doesn't allow for that fact.

so my vote for NAV (which i run as resident) takes precedent over KAV (which i rely upon also as on-demand scanner).

having to pick one ignores the layered approach we all hear so much about. i consider NAV and KAV to be a team on my machines.

regards
