Did pinging the WAP from the client machine work?
Also it's better to have zone alarm running and just set everything to lowest security/everything trusted for the time being. ZAP continues to muck things up while turned off. [text was edited by author 2003-07-22 21:42:10] |

| reply to countryjoe OK, so the problem is:•your host and the WAP won't talk to each other.•It worked previously•you replaced the cable and still no communication•WAP is OK because the client machine can talk to it. So we're down to looking at the host machine and it's connection to the WAP. Is it direct crossover cable from HOST NIC to WAP or is there a switch in between?
Need to check out the host machine's Networking innards, so please do the following on the host machine: Do all the steps below on your host machine.•Always start by pinging 127.0.0.1 (loopback). If this is successful, you have the TCP/IP protocol loaded successfully. •Next ping the IP address of your NIC 192.168.0.1. (you can double-check on this by running ipconfig /all on your host machine) If that is successful, the IP address is successfully bound to your NIC.•Next ping a public IP address such as 198.77.116.39 (www.direcpc.com). If this is successful you are routing across the Internet correctly. •Next ping a host by it's DNS name www.direcpc.com. If this is successful, you are getting correct DNS resolution. -- SRS | Earthlink | Win2K SP3 | G11 | 1370 | ver. 4.0.3.9 | NO SP-B | Gateway .55 |

| 1, Loopback was successful.
2. NO ping on 192.168.0 -- which is the IP for the Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection.
3. Could NOT ping 198.77.116.39, which is VERY odd as...
4. I COULD ping www.direcway.com. (Why couldn't I ping its IP address 198.77.116.39?)
5. I also was able to ping 10.80.45.62 -- the IP addressed assigned to my Direcway Satellite connection. -- SRS, Direcway by Earthlink, SatMex5 1250 Horiz, Software 4.0.3.9, Signal ~86, USB, Pentium 4, Win XP Home, 512 RAM, Tweakmaster Pro, Proxy Off |

There it is! 198.168.0.1 ain't gonna work. That needs to be 192.168.0.1, remeber we need to keep all the device on your network in the 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.254 range. 198 isn't in the range. -- XP Pro|Intel 2.4 Ghz|500 RAM|60 GB HD|DAK403_P8|SatMex5|1230 MHz|Vertical |

| Ok here's a checklist:
Host: 1. Do you have ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) enabled for the Direcway Satelite Connection? I ask this because when you enable the sharing it should have set your ip to 192.168.0.1 by default. Right click on the Direcway connection and select properties and then advanced to enable it.
Laptop: 1. In internet explorer go to Tools->Options->Connections->LAN Settings and click "Use a Proxy Server". Enter 192.168.0.1 and port 83 there. -- SRS|XP Pro|Intel 2.4 Ghz|500 RAM|60 GB HD|DAK403_P14|SatMex5|1230 MHz|Vertical |

| Host: Did that a while ago.
Laptop: Tried this. No connection. Also tried port 85 with same result -- no connection.
Should I re-run the Network Wizard on the HOST?

| Port 83 is the only one that will work on the laptop. You can swap ports on the host but, not the laptop. Can you ping 192.168.0.1 from the laptop?

| reply to satburn By "disable," you mean going into the Wireless Connection icon on the laptop, TCP/IP/Advanced and **deleting** the DNS addresses? 'cause that's what I did. No change. Also tried F.A.B.'s suggestion. But 192.169.0.1 doesn't work on the desktop as a gateway. (You were referring to the Local Area Connection icon, not the Satellite one, right? There already is a gateway IP on the Satellite connection: 66.82.24.21) Can't connect to the Internet with it. | reply to countryjoe I hate to leave you like this but I need to get some sleep. My only parting suggestions would be to download the LCCU Utility from the Downloads section on the MyDirecway page. »dssweb01.mydirecway.com/mydw/com···ndex.jsp
Run that utility on the laptop. It will point it at your host pc and also add some performance tweaks for browsing the net with your laptop.
