| Wireless Hardware Suggestions
Hello, I'm brand new to this forum.
Can anyone would like to help me to pick a wireless router?
I'm considering a router that is 54G Standard, will be connecting 4 computers all connected to my cable modem.
I've been suggested the Linksys WRT54G which contains Wireless and Wired ports which my network can have certain computers wired and other wireless (I didn't know you can do that)
But, if anyone willing to give me a few tips to where to start off, I'll greatly appreciate it.
Thanks -- Dr. Phil's Words of Wisdom: "Get Horny and Call Me" |

| I would reccomend the Netgear line of products the WGR614 for 54 G speeds. If you want 802.11b the Netgear MR814 does work. Now we just wait for Anav to get in here, and tell us about ZyXel. -- AMD Duron 950 Biostar M7VKD ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 16X Burner 16X DVD Drive 80 GB 13 GB 640 MB RAM Windows XP Pro |

| No need file quit, the poster didn't ask for a stable product with some of the best security so I won't mention the B-2000 which won a PC editors choice award. Far be it for me to persuade someone to have an enjoyable experience -- BSE - Naw thats BS! I refuse to get on that truck. I don't even look like a cow! |

| reply to DR_JAY I've been using the Netgear WGR614 router and WG511 card. Worked right out of the box. Easy setup. I get very good range, above 86% from the router on one end of the house to my laptop on the other side. I did try using a D-Link card but could not get the WEP to work, and the range was bad, only 33% at the same distance. I've also heard that Linksys is have the same problems with there G cards as well. I bought my Netgear at Bestbuy a few weeks ago when it was on sale, $99 for the router, $59 for the card. -- Have you heard the "Good News"? | They are ultra conservative and are in the process of testing their G products now that it has been ratified. I would expect to see G products end of this year -- BSE - Naw thats BS! I refuse to get on that truck. I don't even look like a cow! |

| Cool. Keep us posted. I don't want to make the same mistakes I made the last time, I walked into the store and just bought something off the shelf (Linksys WAP11 v2.2) only to find out that within 3 months it went EOL and they introduced the WAP11 v2.6, it works and all but I am glad I found these forums for more information for my next go around. I want to implement some sort of wireless home theater setup with streaming audio and maybe in the future video for that I will probably upgrade to G. But that is a year or so off, I want to wait until those types of products mature. |
