| NOVA speed increase is now being rolled out!!!!!
Cablemoose just PM'ed me to check my speed, as he had just received the speed increase. I ran a speed test and was still at 1500/192, so I rebooted my modem and now running at 3000/192. A big thank you to Coxnegr and Papasmurf, let me not forget GM Gary McCollum.

2003-07-29 19:29:59 EST: 3150 / 184 Your download speed : 3150677 bps, or 3150 kbps. A 384.6 KB/sec transfer rate. Your upload speed : 184757 bps, or 184 kbps. Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!
Very pleased to say the least with pings in the teens on the Cox network. Average: 20ms to BBR
Thanks Cox!!!

You're slightly faster, must be because you're closer to the source. Stole that line from a shipmate when I was posted in New York during the great power failure. He told a citizen the lights were brighter where we were located because we were close to the battery (Battery Park). -:)
Did notice that I can no longer look at my SB-5100 internal web page. Is this by design? [text was edited by author 2003-07-29 20:19:04] |

That is strange that your not able to access your modems webpage. I just tried mine and it came up. I have a SB4200 but that should not make a difference.

| Lars - I took entire system down and rebooted. I am now able to get back into my SB-5100 log page.
No error was indicated in modem log, so I checked the router (ZyXel 324) log and it stated there was a "SNMP Trap 3: Uplink" but after reboot it stated "SNMP Trap 0: cold start" so there was something that confused the router. [text was edited by author 2003-07-29 21:56:20] |

Bob--- Cool. It's amazing what a good old reboot can resolve. Glad all is well.

| reply to Hank I hope so, but I'm not counting on it because they have a system of tiering here, I don't know if they do in NOVA. Tiering as follows:
128/128 Symmetrical, $39.99 a month 1.5/128 Assymetrical, $49.99 a month 3.0/256 Assymetrical, $59.99 a month |

They may adopt tiering here in the future, but our current rice is $59.99 a month for the basic, and only speed available, which was until tonight 1500/192, not is is 3000/192 and in a couple months the upload will increase to 256. |

Is this only for the upgraded areas? I tried turning off the computer, unplugging the modem, waiting 15 seconds, then plugging it back in and then turning the computer back on. No dice. |

Yes, the increase is for upgraded areas. Once your area is upgraded they will increase the speed. |

So this is only for upgraded areas, I knew that. My question is -- if I'm only getting 1.4/90 right now, will that improve with the upgrade?
An increase in the limit won't help me if my lines can't support it. I'm in a new community, with new wiring, and a brand-spankin'-new amplifier in the pedestal right behind my house (just went in yesterday), so I'd expect that the system should support faster speeds... |

When I first became involved with "on - off" switching, I was sending and recieving at the then current rate of a little over 45 bits/sec. Now Cox has just increased my rate to over 3 Megs.
Unnnnbelievable. |

| reply to Hank It appears like its more than doubled. Considering with 1500 we were always get 1400 or so. With 3000 some of us are hitting 3100+.
