| USB or Ethernet
Alright, so I called and signed up for Earthlink cable today and am a convert from DSL. I have seen people say somethings about cable and have two quickies to ask:
1) DO you really lose a NOTICEABLE amount of bandwidth and speed during peak hours when other scan be on in the neighborhood as well?
2) I saw a post that said the installer will hook up my cable modem using either usb or ethernet...is there an advantage or disadvantage to one?
Thanks! |

I experienced several problems with USB...it is so reliant on so many other variables that it can be the source of a lot of problems. Go with ethernet & you will probably experience better up time & faster connections.
USB being a more of a new technology and still is glitchy. |

| reply to newhoustonit 1.) depends 2.) Ethernet all the way!, USB was not designed to handle a always on high speed internet connection. So i would suggest that you go with Ethernet to connect to you modem since Ethernet can easily handle speeds up to 100Mbps -- AMD Athlon XP 2000+ Running at 1.7GHZ crunching for Team Discovery | visit the Big Apple forum |

| reply to newhoustonit Many users have asked this question before, Ethernet is much more stable and faster.. doesn't use your CPU time. USB has many problems with disconnection and latency. [text was edited by author 2003-08-01 21:17:59] |

| reply to newhoustonit 1. Don't know, I use that other broadband technology.
2. Ethernet is more proven and adaptable technology. You are less likely to have a problem with ethernet, it also has more tools, devices and better networking. If you have any thought of networking, just know that you will almost surely go ethernet when you do. |
