| Firewall time
I have a question about my router. I have a Linksys BEFW11S4 Wirless Router. At the moment I haven't changed anything since I got it. I know that linksys routers come with a firewall protection but the user has to enable it themselves. I was wondering what do I do to enable the one on my router. I don't know if it is on now cause I have done port scans and all and I'm not even pingable. I guess you could say I just want the extra security. |

Look in your manual or on the Linksys site for the IP address and follow the instructions. |

| reply to justin098 This is a bit off-topic to your basic query, but . . . .
I believe there are already one or two threads here at DSLR Security Forum about the vulnerabilities of wireless LANs. What I haven't seen mentioned yet is an article in this past week's Washington Post, which you can find at »www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/ar···l26.html .
For the reasons stated in both the threads and the articles, I don't use a wireless LAN, nor do I have any intention of doing so. (Indeed, my own physical LAN setup is just about as far from a wireless LAN as it's possible to get!) -- Regards, Joseph V. Morris |

| reply to justin098 As I said, find your manual and get the IP address for the firmware. Put that IP address into the IE address bar and it will take you to the GUI for setting up the router. If it's like mine, there are almost no settings to change unless you spend 50$ to buy a key for Zone Alarm Pro, which will then give you more options. |
