 EZTrust Antivirus crashes everytime...?

I'm using Windows XP with all the latest updates installed, and version 6.1.5.8 of EZ Trust AV with the latest signatures as well. Whenever I 'Right-click-scan-with-EZ' a file, my computer automatically reboots itself. It does this with any file type.

Anyone have any idea on what I should do?

Just got a response from their tech support (12 AM, too.), they said that there was a bug with the free version of Zone Alarm 3.7 that is causing this.

D'oh.

Follow this guide to show the BSOD, instead of auto -reboot. Instead of 1 for AutoReboot, use 0.

Maaan I have the same problem, I've been trying to work it out for ages.. I even re-installed XP!!! so the answer seems to be to upgrade to zone alarm Pro 4. Pity, that costs.

The latest ZoneAlarm release is 3.7.202. Is that what you are running?

Have only now come across this thread and just in case you may re-visit Fire_Emblem, EZ 6.1.5.8 had bugs that were acknowledged by Computer Associates and which led to it releasing a later update, the current version 6.1.7.0.

I have tried 6.1.7.0 and found it performed without a hitch; however, it has an annoying 'Sammy' splash screen which pops up on each and every boot/reboot. I tried every which way to get rid of it but without success and I later learned that CA had told another user who complained that it could not be removed.

If you are prepared to put up with the splash screen you might consider installing 6.1.7.0; otherwise, if you are able, do what I did and go back to 6.1.4.0 which was a good stable version.

NamVet, if I were you, I wouldn't be so quick to blame the AV. In my many years as a Windows kernel programmer, I've had to "fix" my product that would crash due to poor implementations in other product's drivers. It is not uncommon for one product to expose a long standing bug in another more popular product... Oh the world of IRP stacks, and IRP cancel routines is dark and murky.

Alwill....I continue to be impressed with your bravery at trying all the new versions I'm still back here at 6.1.0.24 and feeling that was a bold move around the first of the year (but it works great). The Sammy Splash screen sounds like a horror movie (we all hate him). But seriously - how does one *go back* to a prior version or even up to something not so new but newer than this? I often wondered, never seen anywhere you can do this.

@rr.com

It appears the conflict between eTrust EZ antivirus and ZA Free has been resolved. Running XP, I just updated to EZ antivirus 6.1.7.0 and have been using ZAF 3.7.211. Using the right-click, I was able to scan an individual file with no 'hang up'. I had problems using EZ 6.1.5.8

That's what it shows on the product info page on my system. On the ZA site here »www.zonelabs.com/store/content/c···load.jsp if you click on the "Download FREE ZoneAlarm", the file download box shows "zaSetup_37_211.exe"

Thank you for the post. I will bring this to the attention of the Zone Labs folks. I'm running ZAPlus, so can only believe what is posted on the released version page. (I'm going to send an email to my Zone Labs contact before I go to bed tonight.)

Hi Janie,

It's not so much a matter of being brave as being cautious because I make sure I have an escape route in case of trouble .Whenever I install new builds/versions, I keep the install.exe files so that in the event of problems with later updates/upgrades, I can go back to an earlier stable platform. This is what I did when I got sick of Sammy and re-installed 6.1.4.0.

The ZoneLabs release page for ZAFree was incorrect and has been modified: »download.zonelabs.com/bin/free/i···ory.html

Thanks a bunch! marti See Profile also contacted me with this bit of wisdom, now maybe I won't have to worry so much about doing those upgrades - well, except I don't want to look at Sammy either. I don't think I will try the 6.1.7.0. Thanks for the info, both of you

The latest version of Zone Alarm, 3.7.211, fixes this problem. I just upgraded to it and EZTrust no longer crashes when I use the right mouse click context menu.

As was mentioned above.

New and improved features in ZoneAlarm version 3.7.211:

Addresses a compatibility issue for users running eTrust EZ Antivirus
Added functionality to defeat Device Driver Attack
Routine maintenance items

»download.zonelabs.com/bin/free/i···#3.7.211

»download.zonelabs.com/bin/free/i···ory.html

So there obviously was an issue and it has now been addressed in this latest build.
