| reply to Genius4052 You really don't need a separate program, MS Paint, which comes with Windows, will work fine. This FAQ gives directions on taking a screenshot and uploading it: »Site FAQ »How do I post attachments and screenshots? -- Pinky: I think so, Brain, but "Snowball for Windows"? |

| No need for a tutorial of it. I can give him the skinny if he wants. I just assumed he was asking for a "program" which did it, and irfanview is by far the most popular.
If you dont want to use irfanview, just press the Print Scrn button on the top of your keyboard. Open up any graphics editing program (MS Paint as suggested) and just paste the image into it. Save as a jpeg (not bmp) and voila. Instant screen cap. -- Click Me I'm Deviant! |

| reply to Genius4052 Don't need a program to print screen.
Press PRINT SCREEN button on keyboard Then open PAINT click EDIT , PASTE , then click FILE , SAVE AS.
If you really want one(program) Snagit is a good one. Try it or buy it »www.techsmith.com/download/snagitdefault.asp |

| reply to Genius4052 The answer to Genius' question depends on how often he will be doing this. If it's a one-time or infrequent thing, then the print-screen/paste-into-MS-Paint procedure should be fine. I do a printscreen on a regular basis to document data in my job, and I need something more. In an earlier "what utilities do you use" thread, someone recommended the Gadwin Printscreen utility. It has many, very useful options and is freeware. It can be found at:

Here is there blurb Clip'nSave 3 Clip'nSave is several easy-to-use graphics tools rolled into one. Its screen capture allows you to capture anything on the desktop and automatically save or print it. Capture features include the AutoScroll capture, able to scroll most windows to capture hidden regions and a Global Capture Menu, accessible from every program's Window Menu. The Clipboard List adds multiple Clipboards to Windows so you can collect multiple images, or pieces of text and Paste or Drag and Drop them into other programs. The Batch tool allows you to convert file formats or apply image processing effects to multiple files without user intervention.

| reply to Genius4052 I tried a bunch of them and settled on the free version of Screen Print Gold from here »www.softwarelabs.com/tsl4/3-spgdownload.htm
Couple of things I like about it are a built in editor so I can crop The ability to save in bmp, jpeg, gif...... And the fact that I can do a bunch of screenshots and then do the editing one by one and save them without losing a "clipboard" image when i do the next screenshot.
Lots of ways to do it and lots of programs, a matter of individual tastes and preferences, just thought I'd toss the one I like in. -- A word aptly spoken is like apples of gold |
