No resolution to those problems. Link lights as if everything works, just no IP negotiation. Weirdest thing I ever saw.
I have everything plugged straight into my main hub - good enough for now.

Did you try a crossover cable for the hub to hub connection? Or make sure you have uplink set for the port on one of the hubs?

I used a regular cable, with port 9 switched to uplink mode. I know the switch was set properly because in one position I got link lights, and in the other position I didn't get link lights. The problem was that even though all the outward indications (link lights, etc.) said it was working - it still wouldn't grab an IP address from the router.
