No resolution to those problems. Link lights as if everything works, just no IP negotiation. Weirdest thing I ever saw.
I have everything plugged straight into my main hub - good enough for now.

Did you try a crossover cable for the hub to hub connection? Or make sure you have uplink set for the port on one of the hubs?
