| finstall.exe downloaded automatically!
Can anybody tell me what finstall.exe is? Today this exec downloaded automatically and went into \direcway\load ! If I hadn't been sitting here watching the display, I would have missed the small download window that included an ABORT button that had to be hit within seconds..well, I missed the time and it downloaded 440K .exe file. I also notice that a finstall.exe exists in \direcway\webcast directory. Unlike the one in Webcast that allows you to see version, company, etc. in PROPERTIES, the one downloaded today does not. Anyone have a guess to the downloaded one and the reason for it? With the worms, I am a little concerned that it came in via direcway ports. Thanks. -- SRS|G4R|1370H|4.0.3.9|PROXY|Tweaks|Win98SE|IE6 SP1|128m |

System File Updates: The Windows Update wizard may be used to install updated system files. It determines if updates are available using the following steps:
The Windows Update wizard scans specific folders and builds a list of file names.
Each file package uses one key file to determine if an update is available on the server. If there are any matches based on the file name, the date of the file determines if the update is valid.
Finstall.exe is used to install the file(s).

| Thanks. That's the one in my WebCast directory. The other one was 440Kb and after browsing it, it appears to be a self-extractor for unzipping something. I suspect it might have something to do with modifying the one in webcast, but so far, it hasn't touched it. I renamed it to something other than .exe. Guess I'll see what trouble this brings. -- SRS|G4R|1370H|4.0.3.9|PROXY|Tweaks|Win98SE|IE6 SP1|128m |

| Dunno Frank but I searched my W2KSP4 and XPSP1 machines and the only place finstall.exe is found is in the C:\Program Files\Direcway\Webcast\ I googled and found the KB article that talks about finstall.exe being used by Windows Update so I expected to find it in C:\Program Files\Windows Update too but it isn't in that folder. -- Webtiger|Earthlink SRS-G11-1410-4.0.3.9 SP-C & HPEP Reg Key, ISO 78| Gateway .79|W2K Server SP4 |ZA Pro|ICS x 4 Windows clients |

| reply to tpanc13 It loaded in my C:\Program Files\Direcway\load
Didn't even notice it, I have the monitor shut off all the time, and I went into some setting in IE and Zone Alarm to batten down the hatches as much as possible, things will probably happen anyway.
