Window's Update

I just went Window's Update, well tried and all I got was a Thank you screen. It must be server trouble or do I have a problem here? Anyone else getting this?

we'd suddenly started having trouble with WU about a week ago, and quite a few friends have reported serious problems in the last week as well, though the form the problems take seem to differ. something is definitely not right there.

Am I really the only one who hasn't had any problems with Windows Update so far? Hmm.......

Re: Window's Update

other than "server too busy" and timeout issues last week, no problems here.

I am having problems on multiple computers in a couple different locations and even different cities... I have to assume something is wrong on their end. I never had problems before...

Strangely enough, I haven't experienced any problems either.

It's good to know that there are some more people who haven't experienced any problems with Windows Update so far.

My problem seems to be with erroneous DNS information.

Can someone post the numerical IP address that v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com is located at presently??

My DNS server gives me "Unknown Hosts" as the address! No wonder I can't reach it!

»v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/e···ault.asp resolves to 209.247.88.180 for me but I do not think that will help you. The first link works but not it's numerical counterpart for getting to the Windows Update site.

Microsoft domains never resolve to only one IP, more like hundreds.
You really need to reach it with domain names.
Did you try windowsupdate.microsoft.com ?
Have you tried disabling the hosts file ?
Microsoft uses akamai a lot these days...

I had problems with WU as well earlier this week. I solved it by resolving download.windowsupdate.com to 208.172.158.234 in my hosts file (MSoft switched a lot of domains around and a lot of DNS still haven't caught up).

If you have edited your hosts file or are using some site/domain blocking scripts/filters, look for a248.e.akamai.net and remark it out. It seems MS is using akamai to handle some services. This may resolve some user's problems.

Found an easy work around:

»v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/e···ault.asp

Just remove the https//v4.

leaving windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

This worked for me!

I guess I have been fortunate as I've not experienced any troubles getting to or using the site.

i don't know why this is happening but i have seen that thanku screen too and it started around the time the msblaster started attacking the internet.
I it has been appeaing here and there once in a while but usually if i go to the update site after about 2 hours - it's back to normal.
When i see that "thank you" page and look at google's cache of windowsupdate.microsoft.com, google's cache also has that "thank you" page so that's how i found out that i'm not the only one seeing this thank you page. Google did too at one point.
I would gess that they are having technical difficulties... no big deal.
