I was curious if anyone knew what that icon was? i was in the middle of a game, and that icon caused my game to be minimized, It was only there for a few seconds, so i didn't have enough time to click on it.

It is hard to tell, since it is sort of small. However, it looks like either the icon Windows displays when it has found a Wireless Link or an IR link.

I'm not using any wireless products, and what is an IR link? i know it means infared, but what's it do. |

It won't do anything if it doesn't have anything to connect with (assuming that is even what it is). It is for things like Palm Pilots/PDA's and other devices that communicate wirelessly, via IR.
Do you have an IR port on your PC - whether internal, external or via motherboard support?

That is weird. You might want to see if the mods want to move your post over to the Microsoft or Hardware forum. Those guys know a lot more about the OS than I do and will be able to point you in the right direction.

Right click an open area of the taskbar choose properties click the taskbar tab then click the customize button for hide inactive icons and see if it shows up in the list. It should give a brief description of what it is there.
