AT&T DSL?

Has anyone heard from AT&T about their upcoming DSL service? Someone had posted that AT&T had contacted them about service but they did not provide any details. I live in the suburbs of Chicago and the only broadband options I have are IDSL (same as I had before but at almost 3 times the price per month plus install and equipment) or satellite. No cable service in the near future due to old equipment in the Aurora area. I'm considering one-way satellite through DPC or AOL+ until Ameritech gets done with Project Pronto.

Anyway, if anyone knows any details about AT&T's plans for turning on the old NP network please let us know. I'm not too proud to be relying on the company that turned me off, but this dial up stuff sucks. My 3Com bridge is still powered on, LED's green and it's still hissing, but I just can't connect through it.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Oysterjetski, I used to work for the contracted company had the largest % of NP's business. Well because NP went under and we had an exclusive contract with them, we also were out of work. Obviously because of being better off fiancially my company went to AT&T to get a contract with them to do a % of there installs as well. So now that you know where this information is coming from (because are working out a time frame to start installing for them, yes we did get the contract). They are interested in eventually being in all the markets NP was in. However they are going to do it gradually. Not necessarily meaning slowly but not everyone at once. The kickoff is to take place in Houston and NYC, NJ area on or around August 1st. Then the rest of bigger markets all by the end of the year. With the entire portion of the market left that doesnt fall into major metros by the end of 2002. I hope this information helps.

Thanks GarageJoe! This answers some of my time frame concerns. I guess I will have to decide if satellite service will be an adequate broadband filler for the summer.

AT&T isn't even the last resort for me...

I wouldn't accept service from them if they could deliver me T1 speeds at 15,000 feet.

Re: AT&T DSL?

Just for your Information, Sprint Should have there ION and DSL lines up and running in the Chicago area by the end of June. It may not be who you want but they are better then nothing.

As much as I could make of it when they contacted me, ATT offers dsl service through COVAD in Chicago. If you go to COVAD's sight you can choose AT&T as one of the ISP's. I don't know what their plans are with NP's lines/equipment.

well I will. I'll cave. I'll jump ship. I'm sorry. but I'm into month 2 on dialup and I can't handle it. I had to stay away from here for awhile 'cause I was gettin' all riled up and I ran out of Zoloft.

I'm better now, but can someone, anyone, please give me some broadband access? I haven't played Counter-Strike in 6 weeks. My webcam grows cold. It takes to long to download the pron. Please help me!
