Re: Back online, but really, really sloooooooooooow!

Follow-up: It ended up not being a technical problem, but it was an idiot at Global Crossing who only signed us up with Rhythms at 128k instead of the 416k we were getting with Northpoint! DUH!

YESSSSSS!!! I got reconnected yesterday (30th) after being down a month. With NP i was getting a solid 784/784 with nary a problem, especially since i was only suppose to get 416/416. Since i have been back up my top speed has been 168/90. I called Telocity and the Tech said it looks like there is interference on my line somewhere. He was observing my packet loss while i was surfing. I thought maybe when i installed a new jack for my new gateway i might have had a wire touching somewhere but i plugged the modem into a different jack and was still getting the same speeds. I just did a speed test and now it is around 690/118, on three different test. I don't know if this is a fluke or somebody actually did something. I am going to call Telocity and see if they have an update. But honestly as long as i don't have to listen to the modem screech, and the web pages are loading faster than dial-up even at around 150kbs, it is still a lot better.

We are a local CPA firm that had subscribed to NP through our phone provider, Global Crossing. They promised to get us back online with Rhythms and provided us with a free dial-up service until they did.

Well, as of last week, we were back up on DSL and did not even have to change the router, only had Verizon come in and do something with the line. However, where we were paying for and getting 416 kbps with NP, we are now only getting a top speed of 120-140 kbps. We can't understand why and so far no one has gotten back to us.

Anyone else having this problem??
