[TDPH] Chairman Update, 13 July -August 29, 2003

This is the current status of project hope as of today.
The chairman update covers us from July 13 – August 29, 2003.

It's a rather lengthy amount of time since I did the last update.
But with my vacation to San Diego and all the recent happening it took me much longer then expected.
Every day I said, today will be the day I will put it all together and something new would come up.
And so it went
I chose today as the date that the update should be done since Kristi told me that she
will have our current financial update this weekend also.
In this time frame many things have happened to further our project.
It has become from just a hope and a dream to now a working project that we can see the results every day.
You don't know how happy and proud I personally am when I see Project Hope in the stats every morning.
And this is still us not running on all 8 cylinders, but I will get to that later in this update

_____________________________________________________

First an update on our own project hope forum.
We have a place called Dedications and Memorials
»www.tdprojecthope.org/forum/view···php?f=10
We are starting to get additions in there and that truly is wonderful too have those special people in our memories.
This forum is updated by Kristi and as time goes by, I'm sure we will have more additions too add there.
The members that are voting members and have donated in one way or another are all welcome to utilize this place.
______________________________________________________

Since Kristi just came up, I think it's only fair to show this wonderful post she did.
»Team Discovery's Project Hope
"Team Discovery's Project Hope"
It was our moment in the sun. And our 15 minutes of glory over at the special project forum.
Now others are aware of our accomplishments as a team and what we have done up till now.
In the future this might be a great place for us too utilize.
But we will look into that when the time comes.

______________________________________________________

Since the last update,
we now have most of our hosts set up and running the blades.
These next links might be of some interest since they show how the development of it all is unfolding.

»[Project Hope] Some help from the members
"[Project Hope] Some help from the members"
In that post I asked for help from our members, for spare parts and sure enough everyone came through.

»Mojo1 and Mojo2 construction pics
"Mojo1 and Mojo2 construction pics"
Bruce Made this link and showed us some pictures of how his blades where being built.

»Mojo2 is up and running!!
"Mojo2 is up and running!!"
This one has Mojo 2 joining Mojo 1

»MOJO blade questions for the TDPH board!!
"MOJO blade questions for the TDPH board!!"
I believe that with this post we where able to come up with who has which blade.
And as it stand at the moment;

Bruce A.K.A (babacher) Has Mojo's 1&2
Jeff A.K.A (JMartin) Has Mojo's 3&4
Brian A.K.A (Nightfall) Has Mojo's 5&6
Brian A.K.A (Dersgniw) Has Mojo's 7&8

Since I have named you has which blades it seems like a good time to give an update on each host.
The money was sent out to each host at the same time.
And in a perfect world we would have each one set up and at the same point.
Unfortunately it's not a perfect world and mistakes happen.
In Brian’s Case A.K.A (Nightfall), the power supply was bad directly out of the box.
So he sent it back in and should receive a new one and gets that going by next week.
So Brian currently has 1 blade up and running.
For Bruce and Jeff everything went smooth and Mojo's 1-4 are crunching away.
You can see Project Hope slowly climbing through the stats in both TSC and UD.
Then we have Brian A.K.A (Dersgniw) who fell on some bad misfortune.
This was not his entire fault and entirely at fault with UPS.
Kristi sent Brian the check as she did with the others VIA UPS, but they seem to have lost it.
We then went ahead and made a stop to that check and sent Brian money VIA Pay Pall.
This slowed us down a little, but Brian has since then, ordered the parts and will be up and running shortly.

This was what I meant by us not running on all 8 cylinders yet
We currently are up on 5 of the 8...lol

»never mind - change of plans
"never mind - change of plans"
This was a post by Bruce and too me is of great importance.
It shows me that these next 2-3 months will really be a trial period.
A period when the host will need to get adjusted to this new equipment.
Each host will need to find a place for the blades and get adjusted to all the other things that come with it.
The things I am referring too are the extra heat created by these crunchers.

Also these next few months will be critical for each host.
To see how there electrical bill is affected by the extra blades.
This in turn will allow them to make a decision if they will want to add and host more blades.
Or too keep the 2 they currently have and let either one of the other hosts have a shot at more blades.
Or if we even will need to look into adding other hosts.
(This is something I also want to address)
My believe is that, in the next few months we let our hosts get accustomed to there new additions.
And see just where they stand with there new blades.
After this "Trial period" we can look into possibly having another fund drive to possibly expand in blades.
We can even look into the possibility of trying to piece together some older units from spare parts.
(But this is something we will really need to look into and see what we want to do with it).

_______________________________________________________

Since the last update we have had members step up and volunteer to be hosts.
It's always hard to turn down volunteers.
Currently we have 4 hosts, which where chosen by the team members when this project began.
And I believe we are very lucky to have 4 separate hosts.
After our "Trial Period" for each host we will see just where we stand on future expansions.
But the current hosts have the first shot and say with future blades.
If the time comes that our current hosts are maxed out and can no longer take on more blades.
We will then look into having more hosts.
Thankfully with the enthusiasm that has been shown in instant messages to me about this.
We should have no problem finding additional hosts when the time arises.

___________________________________________________

Thanks to all the members and our hosts that have made this project become a reality.

Hopefully I was able to shed some light on where we currently stand on Project Hope.

Till the next update;

Thank You

Slava Ryklin

It's been a fun project!

Since those posts above, ColdInCbs has sent me an 8-port 100 MB hub, and I've moved the Mojo machines into my basement. They stay cooler down there, and they don't throw any heat into the living part of the house.

I use TightVNC to check up on them once/day to make sure they're still running. So far, so good!

Thanks, TD, for all your generosity.

Thanks Slava, you're the engine.
Thank you Chip and everyone for the kind words.

But I truly believe that it's our 4 hosts that are the engines behind this wonderful project.
Not for them, we don't have anything but an idea.
I am just truly happy I can take a part in it.

Thanks for the update Slava... just and FYI, I have most of the parts now. I'm still waiting on one harddrive and the power supplies... then we'll be up and crunching with mojo7 and mojo8! Also, I have my scripts collecting stats on the individual crunchers now.. I just need to get together the formatting of the data.

Re: [TDPH] Chairman Update, 13 July -August 29, 20

Thanks for the update slava. Looks like it is starting ro come around.

It's coming on winter time and I would host the next batch of crunchers if needed. It will help keep my office warm.
